USATODAY.com--American gymnast Gabby Douglas captured hearts and gold medals with her performances at the Summer Olympics. Now she'll be telling her story (with the help of a co-writer) in a memoir due out by Christmas.
The book, titled "Grace, Gold and Glory: My Leap of Faith," will be published by Zondervan, the predominantly Christian publishing arm of HarperCollins.
Douglas, 16, was the all-around individual gold medal winner as well as being part of the U.S. squad that won the team all-around. She was the first African American woman to win the individual all-around.
It wasn't just winning that made Douglas one of the most popular figures in the summer Olympics. Her charm and determination were impossible to miss.
In a release about the upcoming book, HarperCollins Senior Vice President Lisa Sharkey said, "Gabby Douglas shines even more brightly than her Olympic gold medals. The reason is her inner strength and strong faith."
The inspirational book, Douglas said, "will also be about how much my family and I have overcome during our journey. It hasn't been easy." She said, "I want people to read my story and say, 'If Gabby can do it, I can do it too. Anything is possible.'"
