I asked him about these customs early in our marriage and he said that they follow Jewish tradition (but he obviously doesn't realize the origin of why they do what they do). It's our culture is what most would say to you if you ask why they celebrate or do certain things.
It is I that should be thanking you; it wasn't until I started reading your blogs about the tribes and whatknot that I became aware of these facts and began to put things together for myself. Keep "makin' it do what it do!
And I do plan to check out the book you posted as blog pik.

He doesn't know, but of course I'd say yes as many of the ancestors migrated to the West from the East of Africa. After a child is born, the father chooses the name and has what's called a naming ceremony on the 8 th day. All male children are circumcised. Women don't enter the church after having babies until after the 40th day. The list goes on and on. They don't eat pork it considered unclean. What else? There are so many!
