This was a blog that was posted yesterday and BIA member Jen Fad has answered the question with integrity and honesty!
Customs are important to know and thus you need to "piece the puzzle together".
Post Question 10/16/12:

Jen Response to Blog Question:
He doesn't know, but of course I'd say yes as many of the ancestors migrated to the West from the East of Africa. After a child is born, the father chooses the name and has what's called a naming ceremony on the 8 th day. All male children are circumcised. Women don't enter the church after having babies until after the 40th day. The list goes on and on. They don't eat pork it considered unclean. What else? There are so many!

I asked him about these customs early in our marriage and he said that they follow Jewish tradition (but he obviously doesn't realize the origin of why they do what they do). It's our culture is what most would say to you if you ask why they celebrate or do certain things.
