If you plan on grocery shopping over the weekend beware of the “free” samples at the grocery store. They are not free as there is a calorie cost associated with all of them. That’s right. Too much sampling can cost you well over 500 calories. Consider this:
-A 2 oz. sample size of creamy chicken salad is 110 calories.
-A 1 oz. sample of cheese is between 100 and 115 calories.
-1/3 of a slice of pepperoni pizza (sample size) is equal to 100 calories.
-A 4 oz. sample of fruit juice is between 60 and 70 calories.
-A 2 oz. sample of cheesecake (~1/4 of a slice) is 180 calories.
Now, this is not to say that you can't indulge in some free samples during your grocery trip. If you choose to, just be sure to do your grocery shopping around lunchtime and make a meal out of it.
