MTA Service Advisory { Attention New York Metropolitan Residents } (523 hits)

Queens Midtown Tunnel to Open FridayGovernor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that the Queens Midtown Tunnel, which was flooded from roadway to ceiling following Hurricane Sandy, will reopen to passenger vehicles only in time for Friday morning's rush hour.

Full service between Canarsie - Rockaway Parkway and 8th Ave resumed this afternoon, following repair work to components inside the Canarsie Tube, which connects the line between Manhattan’s East Side and Brooklyn’s Greenpoint and Williamsburg neighborhoods. The Canarsie Tube was flooded from end to end with ceiling high water following Hurricane Sandy last week.

Subway service is operating on most lines; others are being worked on in hopes of restoring full service system-wide. Bus service is operating on a regular weekday schedule, but service may be delayed or detoured due to downed trees and wires caused by yesterday's Nor'easter. Access-a-Ride is providing regular service in all five NYC boroughs.

MTA Long Island Rail Road is operating on a modified schedule on all branches except the Long Beach Branch, and restored train service between Greenport and Ronkonkoma. MTA Metro-North Railroad is operating regular service on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines.

Customers should be careful on steps and platforms and when detraining or alighting from buses and vans.

Please monitor Service Status for updates on all MTA services.

For specific Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts, see individual agency information below.

New York City Transit Canarsie Line service between Broadway Junction and Manhattan resumed this afternoon, following repair work to components inside the Canarsie Tube, which connects the line between Manhattan’s East Side and Brooklyn’s Greenpoint and Williamsburg neighborhoods. The Canarsie Tube was flooded from end to end with ceiling high water following Hurricane Sandy last week.

Subway service is operating normally on most lines, but there may weather related delays. Bus service is also experiencing delays due to poor road conditions and traffic volume. Customers are urged to monitor Service Status for updates, and take precautions when using stairs, walking on platforms, boarding and alighting buses and trains.

Long Island Rail RoadThe LIRR has restored train service between Greenport and Ronkonkoma and has resumed its modified schedule on all branches, except the Long Beach Branch. Customers may experience some residual delays caused by a combination of snow, sleet and high winds from the Nor’easter that hit our area Wednesday night. Customers should also expect longer waits and crowded cars resulting from reduced train capacity in the East River tunnels and heavy passenger volume system-wide.

Bridges and TunnelsGovernor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that the Queens Midtown Tunnel, which was flooded from roadway to ceiling with water from nearby Newtown Creek during Hurricane Sandy, will reopen to passenger vehicles only in time for Friday morning's rush hour. One tube will be available in each direction, with no counterflow lane.

The Hugh L. Carey (formerly Brooklyn-Battery) which was overcome by tidal surges during Superstorm Sandy remains closed. The tunnel was flooded roadway to ceiling with more than 90-million gallons of water. Recovery efforts are ongoing and water is still being pumped out.

All of the MTA's Bridges are open but toll collections on the Marine Parkway – Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge and the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge to the Rockaways remains suspended, retroactive to when the bridges reopened after the storm. The Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge may be subject to periodic closures for emergency vehicles and equipment.
