Hurricane Sandy Response Update
• 75,000 disaster survivors from NY, NJ and CT have applied for federal disaster assistance, and more than $14.7 million in assistance has been approved
• Preliminary Damage Assessments have been scheduled or
completed in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia and North Carolina
• More than 1,112 FEMA housing inspectors are on the ground in NY, NJ and CT. An additional 2,450 inspectors are projected to be in disaster declared counties by November 4
• More than 7.1 million liters of water and more than 1.6 million meals are positioned at Incident Support Bases in Westover, MA and Lakehurst, NJ. More than 1.6 million liters of water and more than 1 million meals have been transferred to states
• Community relations teams are on the ground in the hardest hit areas of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic going door-to-door to inform disaster survivors about available services and resources and to gather situational awareness
• More than 16 airlift flights have been completed to transport power restoration vehicles and crews from private utility companies from California to the East Coast, and the airlifts will continue today.
• Nearly 7,400 National Guard members are supporting the Sandy response efforts in CT, DE, MD, NC, NJ, NY, PA, RI, & WV
• Nine federal urban search and rescue teams continue to support state and local efforts for combined searches of more than 3,300 structures in Queens and 870 structures in Staten Island, and rapid reconnaissance of 9,500 structures in Nassau County, New York.
