On behalf of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), I would like to invite you to join us as we return home to Indiana for our 39th Annual Convention. The convention will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, just 45 minutes from Purdue University, where we were founded in 1975. NSBE week will conclude on March 27 – 31, 2013 where nearly 10,000 students and professionals will converge on the Indiana Convention Center and surrounding venues.
NSBE’s Annual Convention returns to the city of Indianapolis after much success at the 2001 Annual Convention, where more than 9,000 students, alumni, and professional members were in attendance and more than 300 companies participated in our career fair, competing for the best engineering talent in the black community. During the 2001 Annual Convention, Indianapolis’s own Vivica A. Fox hosted our Golden Torch Awards (GTA) along with plenary speakers: Tavis Smiley, Tony Brown, Kweisi Mfume and many others.
The Annual Convention annually recognizes excellence among technical professionals, corporate, government, and academic leaders, as well as university and pre-college students. We highlight the possibilities that can be cultivated through support and responsibility. The proceeds of convention are used to create college scholarships for gifted high school students.
All of these activities coincide with the convention theme, which is “#NSBE2013: Honoring Our Past, Driving Our Community Forward”.
Themes of the Day:
Wednesday – STEM Public Policy
Thursday – Honoring Our Past
Friday - Blacks In Technology
Saturday – Driving Our Community Forward
The race is on to Indy. I hope to see you there.
With NSBE Luv,
Ms. Whitney B. Gaskins
NSBE 39th Annual Convention Planning Committee Chairperson
