Peace,
The March on Washington to promote Civil Rights and economic equality remains one of the most famous events in American history. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. offered a transcendent vision of racial harmony for our future with his "I Have a Dream Speech" and spoke of a generation that struggled against repression so the next generation might fare better, and of hope for a more perfect future.
Now here you are 50 years later in the year 2013 still marching for civil rights and human rights after all the blood, guts, and tears that was shed because of integration. We are worse off morally and financially then we were during our so called mass civil rights movements. Today we lack in understanding.
Black people have been marching for untold decades and yet, our socio-economic condition continues to get worse. After the speech, after marching (or actually standing still in the same spot for about 12 hours in the hot sun at the Lincoln Memorial), after singing "We Shall Overcome" and other hymns, THEN WHAT?
See there is no vision and when there is no vision the people perish! Why? Very simple: Mere marching CANNOT solve our socio-economic problems. No disrespect to Dr. King but the truth is the truth... that old way aint working in these days and times.
The time for marching is up!!! Black men must do as Elijah Muhammad and Marcus Garvey taught and that is the hard work of building and maintaining a nation for Black self and kind. If mere marching was the answer, Dr. Martin Luther King and the old civil rights crowd would have freed us decades ago.
This is the year 2013, and Black leaders are STILL "marching" led by the Reverend Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, and other predominant figures. Looks like we haven't learned the lessons of history. Mere marching has never and can never free us.
However, Black men and Black women doing the hard work of building and producing for his Black Nation of self and kind absolutely CAN free us and make us an independent people worthy of honor and respect.
Peace!!!
