LEMOYNE OWEN OPENS NEW RESIDENCE HALL
THE PROJECT HAS HAD IT STRUGGLING CALL

An excited crowd of students at Lemoyne Owen College were elated to finally see the four-story brick building at 869 Saxon visible and open. The largest construction of the school took over 40 years in the making was finally ready. School president Johnnie B. Watson enrolled 1,000 students for fall which is up from 500 in 2006. The large historical building comes from a struggle but shows the continued effort of the Black colleges will to survive! The opening ceremony had speaker U.S. Rep Steve Cohen stating that the l13. million loan through the U.S. Department of Educations Historically Black College and University Capital Financing Program, demonstrated the good federal government can do. The new dorm houses 200 residents, and that raised the status to 250 students to live on campus. The new dorm is coed. Some perks of the building include a state of the art computer center, laundry facilities, recreational areas and 24 hour security. The ribbon cutting President Watson stated it was faith that brought the transformation of Lemoyne-Owen to continue and he said " A lot of prayers went up for Lemoyne-Owen, when prayers go up blessings come down." Robert Lipscomb an alumnus and Board of Trustees thanked the attendees of the ceremony. Students and faculty were all together raised in jubilee!
