“Stand Up!: A Book Review of ‘The Rejected Stone’” by Rev. Al Sharpton
The Rev. Al Sharpton has released his memoirs and it allows his own voice to come through clearly. The conversational tone will at times reveal deep sorrows and at other times, great triumphs from the scandalous as a child by his biological father, to the steadfast rearing of his mother, Ada, and his world-renown mentor, Mr. James Brown. Rev. Sharpton spends less time on sermons, and more time on applying those messages of morals, justice, righteousness, and peace in his path to global civil rights leadership. Integrity made the path smooth. The crafting of this book has every ingredient to make Rev. Sharpton a gem for followers of no justice, no peace responsibly. It sparks an obligation to ensure no child should be left behind because everybody has value. This highlights the purpose of Rev. Sharpton’s community-based organization; NAN and why many great people from all around the world are attracted to this man’s wisdoms and advice.
“The Rejected Stone” is more than a good read. It has its teary moments such as the passing of Mr. Brown and Michael Jackson. We all must start our journey and get on the path to go beyond boundaries. If I must critique the decisions or behaviors of this man to date, it would be allowing those old photos of Rev. Alfred Sharpton to be released and his lack of courage in seeking to be that transformational politician in office he was meant to be and whom the world needs. The book itself ignites a flame to jump in. It glorifies God even more because it is easy to read and written on a reading/comprehension level for all youth in our community especially.
