The captain and three crew members of the sunken South Korean ferry have been charged with murder, the chief prosecutor said.
Capt. Lee Joon-seok, the chief engineer, and the first and second mates could face the death penalty if convicted of the charges, but it has been nearly two decades since the last time capital punishment was carried out in the country.
