
(AP) Brazil’s World Cup shootout against Chile was a tragic heart-stopper for one fan. The shootout that decided the World Cup match between Brazil and Chile proved to be too much for one Brazilian man to handle; he had a heart attack while watching from a bar in the stadium and died 2 hours later after being rushed to the hospital.
A 69-year-old soccer enthusiast watching the final moment’s of the host team’s stunning 3-2 victory in a bar at the stadium suffered a fatal heart attack, the Estado de Minas newspaper reported. The Brazil booster, who had high blood pressure and diabetes, was rushed from Mineirao Stadium in Belo Horizonte to a nearby hospital where he died two hours later, state health officials told the paper.
Emergency workers were busy throughout the game. A total of 98 people required medical attention during the contest — about 60 of them treated in their seats by stadium staff, the newspaper reported. A 50-year-old was treated and survived a heart problem, and 20-year-old had his nose broken in a fight at a watch party. A 19-year-old Brazilian fan was reportedly hit in the head with a bottle during a fight with a Chile supporter.
