Raised by devout Catholic parents, Ellison, the third of five sons, remembers respect, tolerance and social justice being constant topics in his household, and he was given the right to choose his path at a young age. As a kid, when Ellison became disinterested in Catholicism, seeing the faith as “just rules and regulations, orthodox dogma,” he stopped attending services. “I think I was an atheist or agnostic at some point, as well,” he tells EBONY.com. It wasn’t until his sophomore year of college at Wayne State University that a 19-year-old Ellison made a true connection with Islam and chose the faith for himself. “I was studying for a calculus test with a friend of mine from Libya when he said he had to leave and go to Jum’ah and I asked, ‘What’s that?’ He thought I should come and see for myself. I was curious, so I went with him and I saw all these shoes out in the hallway in the student center at Wayne State and men and women were sitting in there on sheets and there was a speaker talking about things that were interesting to me. I was working on anti-apartheid activities at the time and I was active on racial justice and fairness issues, so I liked what the speaker was saying. Well this is just my opinion.. copyright... I was first a Catholic.... At 14 I started questioning my own beliefs whom was christened as a tiny babe... Being a little sacrifice given to GOD.

In his response to the question, Dr. `Abdul-`Azeem Al-Mat`ani, professor at Al-Azhar University, issues the following Fatwa:
The majority of Muslim scholars maintain that taking an oath on the Qur'an is not considered an oath unless the one who swears intends that swearing by the Qur'an is tantamount to swearing by the Divine Being (Allah), and he cited his oath according to this very intention.
With this in mind, the oath is equal to swearing by Allah Almighty, and the person who swears has to either fulfil his oath or to make Kaffarah or expiation, if he does the thing upon which he swore not to do.
On the other hand, if the person swears on the Qur’an just with the intention of honoring the Qur'an and no more, then his oath is null and void.
The opinion which is believed to be the most correct is that the person who swears by the Qur'an is obliged to pay Kaffarah in order to be on the safe side.

Long ago Our Father Elijah sent many to AlAzhar; my turn came in the late 60s......I was taught by many great scholars of AlIslaam and the Sunnah of Mohamed(saw); IN FACT, two of my Shaikhs were Travelers with ElHaj AbdulMaleek AsShabazz who had stayed to become educated in AlIslaam.
But we must understand that AlAzhar in 2013-2014 sanctioned the executions of many of the democrats of the Previous President who had been deposed in a Military Coup by the General Sissy-now President and authorized by AlAzhar........
