The U.S. unemployment rate in October edged lower, to 5.8% from 5.9%, signaling continued improvement in the job market, the government reported today.
Overall, the economy added 214,000 jobs for the month, in line with gains over the past year.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics report is consistent with a slow but steady economic recovery.
Economists had forecast a slightly larger increase in jobs but no change in the unemployment rate.
