Stuart Scott, an ESPN anchor and former staff member at Orlando's WESH-Channel 2, died Sunday morning after a lengthy battle with cancer, the sports network announced. He was 49.
Scott was initially reluctant to speak publicly about multiple bouts with cancer, but his speeches and the limited interviews he granted documented his determination to fight the disease and were lauded as an inspiration to others with and without cancer battles of their own.

"It's just who I am, so it's not a matter of it being impressive, it's a matter of 'I'm gonna win this' and this is how I win. It motivates me to win," Scott told the Orlando Sentinel in 2011.
He previously worked for WESH from 1990-93.
During the week of the 2011 ESPYs, Scott underwent chemo Monday morning, attended an event that night, participated in the ESPYs golf tournament Tuesday, served as the emcee for a brunch, trained in mixed martial arts Wednesday morning and attended the awards that evening.
