Mic Check: Today's Talking Points (1085 hits)

A shooter at an Oregon college killed 10 people. The gunman, 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, opened fire on Umpqua Community College’s campus in Roseburg, injuring at least seven others before he was killed by police. Mercer reportedly told Christian students to stand up before saying "Good, because you're a Christian, you're going to see God in just about one second." •This school shooting is the 142nd since the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre and the 45th this year alone. •While Twitter users showed just how fed up Americans are with gun violence, a visibly frustrated President Barack Obama called for political action. "Our thoughts and prayers are not enough," he said. "It's not enough." •Here's where the 2016 presidential candidates stand on gun control.

The gunman's name doe not imply that he is Muslim. Did he feel ostracized by students, so why did he hate Christians?

He did NOT, until the RoseburyOregon police release his letter in a box to contradict, tell any witness that he "hated" Christians, he said as jeniFa has posted --- he wanted to send them to heaven.....

@ Rob,

[--- he wanted to send them to heaven.....]

Well they went somewhere. Heaven, I hope but in the event they didn't make it there... I hope they are somewhere safe until they can get there.

@ Helen,

..."Did he feel ostracized by students, so why did he hate Christians?"...

He had some mental health issues one of which I can only speculate being Depression (hopelessness). His mother probably did the best she could but surely the system is to blame as well. A lot of times, people that need help can't get it until they commit some kind of heinous crime. Its really sad that American health care devalues, deprives, and in some cases denies people access to mental health services. In many cases, the amount of service given are limited to private health plans and then after that there are out of pocket fees or fee for service which is very expensive.
