We are weeks away from the presidential election and our most effective tool for protecting voters has been weakened.
Please join me in urging Congress to hold a hearing on restoring the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) to its full power right away.
This year marks the 51st anniversary of the VRA, one of the most important and effective civil rights laws ever passed. But in the wake of the Supreme Court's 2013 Shelby County decision, which gutted Section 5 of the VRA, a wave of discriminatory voting changes have been unleashed on communities of color, affecting millions of voters.
In fact, this will be the first presidential election in more than half a century without the full protections of the Voting Rights Act in place.
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that has been at the forefront of civil rights litigation and advocacy for over 75 years. LDF has aggressively challenged barriers to voting in court, but without the full protections of the VRA, discriminatory legislation will keep coming up.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte have the power to hold a hearing right now about restoring these protections.
PROTECT THE VOTERS RIGHTS ACT:

Onward,
