Chairmen of The Board Making A Comeback

One of the top Soul and R&B Groups of the 1970's Chairmen of the Board are making a comeback to recording and touring again. The group consisting of General Norman Johnson, Eddie Custis, Danny Woods and Harrison Kennedy was formed and put together by legendary ex Motown producers Holland/Dozier/Holland when they started their own record labels Invictus and Hot Wax. In the late 60's and early 70's the group had several chart toping hits most notably million seller Give Me A Little More Time in 1970 and other hits: Dangling on A String, Pay To The Piper, Finders Keepers and Everything's Tuesday. The group disbanded in 1976 after touring Europe and several group members went on to establish solo careers.
The group reunited several times over the years but on October 13, 2010 General Johnson whose first name was really General died at the age of 69. In addition to being a vocalist, Johnson was also a songwriter who wrote songs for other artists such as Clearance Carter (Patches) Honey Cone (Want Ads, Stick Up) and Freda Payne (Bring The boys Home). Johnson sang lead with Chairmen of The Board during their heyday. Now Ken Knox heads the group. In recent years the group gained a new audience in North Carolina along the coastal areas near resort beaches with their up-tempo R&B songs the area natives call "Beach Music". Their music remains popular due to a commercial that uses their songs, their touring and play on R&B and Ol' School format radio stations.
Chairmen of The Board is staging a recording and touring comeback, this time on the MoPhilly label. While they no longer have General Johnson to pen their tunes, they have linked up with veteran hit songwriters Melvin (Could It Be I'm Falling In Love) and Mervin Steals and producer McKinley Jackson and their Mac-Mer-Mel producing tandem to launch their newest venture. The have recorded several new tunes and they are currently getting some airplay from their latest album Words Left Unsaid.
