McDonald’s Gives Four National Scholarships to HBCU Students on #GivingTuesday (3964 hits)

November 27th was #GivingTuesday, but all season long one brand has been rewarding HBCU students who give back to their cohorts and communities. McDonald’s USA is committed to being deeply rooted in the community, and throughout this fall they’ve awarded four $10,000 McDonald’s True to the HBCU Scholarships, in partnership with Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), to well-deserving students. The scholarship is just one way the Golden Arches supports educational empowerment through its True to the HBCU platform, as it helps cover higher education expenses, such as tuition, room, board and books, that can sometimes hinder students from achieving graduation.

Here are four of the scholars:
- Rachelle Brown of Tennessee State University received the first of four $10,000 McDonald’s True to the HBCU scholarships at the 29th annual Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis. While maintaining a 3.8 grade point average, the Memphis native actively serves in her community by sorting and packaging food at the Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville, collecting supplies for homeless women and victims of natural disasters in the Virgin Islands, and has served as a reading volunteer with Smart Bab — an organization promoting childhood literacy.

- Brea Williams of Alabama State University was presented with the second scholarship during 77th Magic City Classic in Birmingham. Brea actively serves in her community through mentorship and voter registration. The Virginia native holds a 3.8 grade point average and volunteers as a Teacher’s Aide at the Early Childhood Center on ASU’s campus where she helps preschool and kindergarten children.

- Lauren Jones of Stillman College received the third scholarship during the schools 142nd Founder’s Week celebration in Tuscaloosa. The Washington, D.C. native holds a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of Student Government Association and actively spreads awareness about mental health and helping others reach their full potential.

- Annaya Morrison of Florida A&M University was awarded the fourth scholarship. McDonald’s presented the first-generation college student with the big reward at the 39th Florida Blue Florida Classic in Orlando just before the Thanksgiving holiday. A Florida native, Annaya is actively involved in her community and campus through her dedication to keeping them clean and safe with Green Coalition. She is also a member of Campus Curlz where she enhances, educates, and uplifts those on campus and in the community through educational support and service.
