Defense Secretary Austin and General Milley Testify on 2022 Budget, Part 1
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Mark Milley testified before the House Armed Services Committee on the president’s 2022 budget request. Following a short break, committee members continued their questioning of the top military leaders. They were asked about efforts to address extremism in the military, nuclear deterrence, military strategy toward China and the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. On extremism, Gen. Milley said," I want to understand white rage, and I’m white." He concluded by stating, “I personally find it offensive that we are accusing the United States military, our general officers, our commissioned, non-commissioned officers of being quote ‘woke’ or something else.”
