U.S. Access Board Chair Taryn Williams
Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy Taryn Williams was elected as the new Chair of the U.S. Access Board. The Access Board is an independent federal agency that promotes equality for people with disabilities through leadership in accessible design and the development of accessibility guidelines and standards. "The work of the Access Board is critically important in light of the President's commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility," said Williams. "I am honored to be selected as Chair and look forward to helping the Board achieve its ambitious equity and access goals in the coming year."

Blended, Braided or Sequenced Funding
The LEAD Center will host a webinar on "How Blended, Braided or Sequenced Funding can Help Drive Employment, Equity and Inclusion" on March 22 from 3:00-4:30 pm ET. This federal interagency webinar will feature speakers from Arizona, Colorado and North Carolina discussing how their systems (including Vocational Rehabilitation, Medicaid, Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Education) successfully applied innovative, collaborative resource sharing to benefit both businesses and jobseekers with disabilities.

The Employment First Community of Practice will host a webinar on "Customized Employment Funding: Strategies and Solutions" on March 30 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET. In the webinar, Beth Keeton and Doug Crandell will discuss best approaches for funding Customized Employment efforts. They will explore available CE funding sources and the necessary financial considerations for providers incorporating CE into their service offerings. The webinar will conclude with a discussion with participants to provide tangible steps for increasing access to CE funding.

Apprenticeships as a Career Pathway for Youth with Disabilities:

The Center for Advancing Policy on Employment for Youth released a policy brief on "Expanding Apprenticeships as a Career Pathway for Youth and Young Adults with Disabilities." The brief examines apprenticeships as a proven strategy for increasing labor force participation rates and lowering unemployment rates for youth and young adults with disabilities. It outlines how states can increase opportunities for Y&YADs and encourage economic growth by creating and fostering accessible and inclusive apprenticeships.

The Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion updated its "Federal Contractor Requirements" web page. This resource helps federal contractors and subcontractors understand their requirements to hire, recruit, retain and advance qualified people with disabilities and reach their disability inclusion goals. Topics include disability-related requirements for federal contractors, encouraging self-identification and finding job candidates with disabilities.

ePolicyWorks published the final summary report for its recent dialogue, "Advancing Inclusive Apprenticeships: A National Online Dialogue on Increasing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility in Apprenticeships." Hosted by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy, Office of Apprenticeship in the Employment and Training Administration, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, Veterans' Employment and Training Service, Wage and Hour Division and Women's Bureau, the dialogue provided input on how to promote inclusive apprenticeship programs under DOL's commitment to DEIA in the American workforce. The summary report includes the dialogue's key takeaways, themes and resources that will support DOL's efforts to improve access to work for diverse and underrepresented career seekers including people with disabilities, women, people of color, veterans and people from the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as career seekers whose backgrounds may intersect multiple diverse groups.

The Partnership on Employment and Accessible Technology's "AI & Disability Inclusion Toolkit" won a 2022 Disruptive Tech Program award. The Disruptive Tech Program award honors federal information technology programs that use technologies in new and disruptive ways while having a measurable impact on the culture and their organizations' missions. Award winners are selected by a panel of current and former federal and industry IT sector leaders.

The National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women is a new partner of the State Exchange on Employment & Disability. NOBEL Women is a non-profit, non-partisan organization primarily composed of current and former black women legislators focused on increasing and promoting the presence of black women in government and serving as a global voice to address issues affecting the lives of all women. SEED presented an overview of disability employment policy and the intersectionality of race and gender, as well as inclusive workforce policy options and state examples, at the NOBEL Women National Board Leadership Development Meeting.
