"Newsweek conducted a poll to measure a “Racial Resentment Index”. The poll was conducted to measure whether or not white Democratic voters would consider voting for the first serious Democratic black candidate for President of the United States, Barack Obama. The poll found that 1/3 of the white voters resented race and would not vote for Obama because he was a black man. It clearly exemplifies the racial views of some whites. And 1/3 of white Democrats is a formidable number.
This is an emerging demographic, 'white folk who are racist'. The fact is, there are a significant number of white folks in America that continue to harbor and exhibit, whenever they legally can, racism. This was just a measurement of Democrats.
Black folks have been voting for and electing white candidates for president since we've been allowed a vote in this country. We have been the power swing vote when our numbers were brought to bear, in politics, local and national, to make sure white Democrats were elected.
And the sentiments expressed anonymously and spewed on Internet blogs and in on line communities are rampant with racial hatred of Obama and petty racial profiling of Obama and the rest of us blacks. And we would have voted, yet again, for a white person, Hilliary Clinton, should she had been the Democratic nominee, despite her imperfections.
Everyone should be able to vote the way they please. For me, I've voted for Democratic and Republican candidates. One reason I go back and forth is because I tend to look more at the candidate and how he or she relates to what I believe would be a better bargain for the country. Another reason is because I won't allow any one party to take my vote for granted!
But this behavior of white voters who simply can't bring themselves to vote for a candidate, just because they are black, probably exhibits one of the first real glimpses into truths about racism in America. Mostly it's whites, a few blacks, and the media that tend to claim that it no longer exists and that any such accusation is a form of psychosis.
The real “Racial Resentment Index” will be measured, visible and confirmed, during this 2008 presidential election, when white democrats choose to stay at home and, temporarily, exit from the Democratic Party and enter the Republican Party, just to assure that a black man has little or no chance to get the votes needed from his fellow Democrats. No doubt they'll use some other excuse, because they're not brave enough to be honest and it's ugly to have that sickness!"

www.blackmenstop.com Please respond to my questions. Why won't some white folks vote for a black man for president, given we have voted for white male presidents forever. Remember, the "Racial Resentment Index" (RRI) had nothing to do with Obama's stand on the issues, only his race. And does this prove that they are more racist, as a result of the RRI?
