Refuse To Be A Victim (833 hits)

We can not lay down and cry over the bad situations that we face in life, because we would not be able to move beyond them. There are times that we tend to limit ourselves worrying over the things that we can not control, instead finding out what we can do to change the situation.

"It really doesn't matter how we got in a ditch, if we are truly trying to get out of it. We can cry about someone pushing us in the ditch, or we can get out of it and laugh later."

We can't blame anyone if we are in a bad position when we are not doing anything to get out of it. Someone or something else might have caused the problem, but we become the problem when we refuse to face it.

Be a survivor not a victim,

SG

"We focus on the negatives, losing ourselves in the ‘problem.’ We point to our unhappy circumstances to rationalize our negative feelings. This is the easy way out. It takes, after all, very little effort to feel victimized."

-- Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

Nothing and no one can make us a victim. We do it to ourselves when we allow external circumstances to hold power over us.

Although we have no control over what happens to us, we ALWAYS have a choice in how we respond. We hold our power when we accept complete responsibility for our thoughts, feelings and actions.

"A man may fall many times but he won't be a failure until he says someone pushed him."

-- Elmer G. Letterman

"The most potent weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed."

-- Steven Biko

Okay, I'm with you on that. But will you also agree that sometimes, taking control of the situation translates into revolution?

This is absolute truth! "Woe Is Me" feels good for a while, but then it gets boring and stagnant. Taking control of the siutaion by accepting responsibility, etc., frees the mind from the chains that bond you to the negative energy of a "ditch" situation. Crawling out of the ditch may even be painful, but then you can stand tall above it and walk away. Sometimes, we do not want to accept how we allowed ourseles to get into that situation, but we do play a role in our hurts and joys. Thanks for sharing...

Revolution can be looked at in many forms, and this type of situation would most definitely be a revolution.

The 1st thing that I do every morning is choose to be happy, and I am actually vocal with this. If anything threatens to change that, I keep in mind that I, alone, have the power to determine if I continue to be happy or if I will allow it to change my feelings. I will take your advice about taking that extra step to make sure that I am always 1 step ahead.

I am glad that you commented, and yes we play a role in how we get out of situations. We can't cry away a problem.
