New Controversial Song "Sometimes I Wish I Was White" (2656 hits)

Independent singer Allen Watty has just taken controversy to another level. Watty is best known as the singer of the "Hurricane Song", which won rave national reviews from ABC News, MSNBC.com, and CNN.

Producer and songwriter Irvin Lee, comments, "First off, we have no self-hatred issues. The purpose of this song is not to say that Blacks should want to be white. Rather, the intent is to make people think and converse about the continuous mistreatment of Blacks in this country."

He continues, "The song portrays the common frustration that many African Americans have when it comes to injustice. As mind-blowing and as absurd as it sounds, in the world that we live in, you have to entertain the concept of being white in order to experience true equality. So, our song is not controversial; the concept of a person having to be white to be treated right is controversial. When we wrote this song, we knew the phrase 'I Wish I Was White' would stir up emotions, and this was intentional to get people to open some new doors of communication."

MJ and CM thanx for your responses. I had not heard of this until this blog entry. I was shocked to read the title! May I say as a white woman that the grass ain't much greener on this side of the fence. Some of us endure just as much injustice from the white community as other races. My race, many times, has made me to be ashamed of what I am...white. At large, the white community has a "holier than thou" attitude. I agree that the black community has been mistreated in so many ways, it is appauling! I look through history and see that "whites" have mistreated pretty much every race on the planet including their own. Being white, I would like to extend my services as a platform to make changes within my own racial/racist community. What I need is 411 and some feedback as to what we can do to assess what things need to change, and an open and honest communication of how best to implement those changes. We are renewed by the transforming of our minds, but also, a closed mouth don't get fed. The point is not to manipulate the white community into change. They are professionals at manipulation, and recognize it when they see it coming for them! It just won't work. They majority of the white community is power hungry. Thank you for the topic and please let me know if there is anything I can do to help stop the insanity. GB
