How many black Nielson families are out there?
Do we not have a say whether a program to stay on the air or not?
I think that we as a group can decide that a show is offensive, and should be taken off the air if its content and language is something that we feel is in appropriate for younger family members, or if it portrays a group in a nagitive light. Do we as a group here on BIA.com have the ability to stand together on an issue like this? Let’s take the show cops, that show feeds into all the fears and preconceived notions about black people that white Americans have grown accustom too. It was never meant to show blacks in a good light, it’s about fighting the crimes that blacks commit. We can’t say well we just wont watch it, and it will go away.
If your not a Nielson family your non-viewing of the show is of little consequence. But it we lunched a campaign of letters and emails, and calls to the Networks that are broadcasting this garbage, we could be just as effective as the Nielsen’s. I like to see us as a group Actively working on issues that are affecting our community and what we can do to change it.
There is a Bonding that comes with small victories. Let us draw a line in the sand and say we no longer want to watch shows that do not show diversity and positive Images of black people.
We have to start lobbying for our own Physical, mental and Spiritual health.
What are some of your Ideas?
