When I opened my e-mail this morning and saw that a message was waiting for me from this site, I honestly didn’t expect the response I received regarding my posted blog. To those who responded directly or indirectly; when I posted my blog, the subject matter was never intended to exasperate or offend anyone. If I come across as a Bible thumper or seem to have a holier than thou attitude, then I really feel true remorse, because that is not the person I am or even wish to represent. I am not – I do not consider myself a religious person. Religion kills, steals and destroys - you only have to see what people are doing in the name of religion all over the world today – but I do consider myself to be a person of faith – It just happens that my faith is embedded in the saving grace of Jesus. Again, I reiterate that I am not a religious person, but I am a black woman who has so far lived 54 almost 55 years on this earth who knows from my life experiences that there’s no way I could have made it to this moment in time without a measure of faith, prayers and many, very many tears. And that I will not apologize for. When I write, most times it will come out of my faith – I will put it out there, but no way will I attach an addendum that will say – you’ve got to believe as I do. When I write, I also will write from my life experiences – remember the old maxim that says write what you know; I can’t write no more or no less than that. If I write something and my facts are wrong or I write something out of total ignorance, than please correct me with constructive criticisms. I even welcome different POVs that I can weigh against my own perceptions – mind openers that can help me to grow. (At this point, I will say thank you for reminding me that there are people who share different faith values than me. But isn’t that the beauty of being a Black person in America? We are different even in our blackness; in how we express ourselves and here at this site is where I felt safe that I could do that – express myself). We live in a society that has censored our histories, our thoughts and our actions – it just seems unfair to find censorship here on this forum, because of my beliefs and life experiences - because you don’t happen to like or agree on how I choose to express myself whether I use the Bible to illustrate my thoughts or not.

I call this the freedom of having faith. There is one faith although it may have many members of the body.

Vanessa, let me encourage you. I read your blogs and I don't see anything that would have brought about any negativism. If anything, they are encouraging and uplifting. I've learned that sometimes, the very mention of God gets some folk going. ...as if God is a profane word of something. Let me encourage to receive you own but reject what you don't. You really shouldn't own this one. It's simply not true. Keep allowing God to use you. Sometimes people can be discouraging, but you know because I read it in one of your blogs...we're not wrestling against flesh and blood. Continue to love God and to grow in His wisdom and let your light shine. Be not dismayed. Not everyone will receive well what it is you have to say. That said, continue to be encouraged. Continue to search God. HE will deal with people. And lastly, there is no need to qualify or justify your faith. People of faith get it. Trust me. And you'll notice a trend that people who either do not believe at all or who don't believe the same way will almost always leave something to be desired in their delivery...where it comes off as more of an attack than any form of loving correction. I always expect that. When people don't understand why you believe what you believe, it's easy to judge or label. I personally take "Bible thumper" as a compliment. If that's the worst thing I'll be called because I love God and thirst after His righteousness, then AMEN to that. They called Jesus a lot worse and treated Him a lot worse, too. You're doing fine. And your approach and transparency are inspiring. You've set an example here. Blessings...
