Should there be seperate schools for boys and girls? (556 hits)

Philadelphia has one all girls high school and one all male charter school. The thought is that these students will be less distracted if they are separated. There is some research that says that students focus better and earn better grades when they are separated. I think students should have this option if it will help them to be more focused on their grades and success in life. Some say that separate schools are not real life. Young women and young men need to learn how to focus on earning good grades when they are both in the same class. What do you think?

I am happy you bloged this. Having 3 boys, and homeschooling them after their being in public school throughout their elementary years, I have seen that boys and girls learn differently. Boys tend to be more "hands on" and "active" learners, whereas girls tend to enjoy learning in a structured environment with lots of reading and writing. I don't necessarily think boys and girls should be in separate schools, but it would be nice to see classes specifically designed to accentuate each genders' learning styles to further their learning potential. Thanx again for this blog.

I think it should be an option at least in order to have more alternatives for our children.
