The Return of Black Pride and Black Love: The Obama Effect (214 hits)

No doubt, that we are returning to pride of ourselves, our culture, our Story - where and who we are these days.

I feel we can thank the presence of Barack and Michelle Obama for this.

Their faces, accomplishments and reasoning in America's spotlight has, I believe, strengthened the spirits and minds of Blacks all across the country. It's a movement that speaks days when we were very proud of who we are as a people who have endured, struggled and triumphed in this country, and abroad.

It is important - that we feel proud, good about ourselves, and once again sharing who we are with ourselves and with the rest of the world. Obama's shining presence has captured the hearts and minds of many of us and has helped restore the beauty of who we are for America to see.

How do you feel when you see their faces on magazines, TV and in person? How does it make you feel? Are you encouraged?

What will happen from here, especially with his election, is the focus on reality of who we are. It will not be the focal point of this new movement, but I believe we will once again focus on issues that focus on our ills, strengths, and paths we need to tread. I can see a return to honesty, creativity and respect in our music, writings, and movies. I can see more KRS-Ones, Mos Defs, Commons, Lauren Hills and the like reaching the people with music and messages that speak to our beauty and our love for one another.

This will be a new reclaiming and re-energizing effort of we people of color.

Obama is helping to bring this to fruition. We will continue to see him and be motivated by his cool, his candid style - it will remind of us Bob Marley, Malcolm X, Dr. King, Ida B. Wells, Sojourner Truth and the like.

We will create new dances, design new paintings, develop new movies and videos that promote Black pride and love.

We will love and hug one another with Black pride and Black love.

The return of Black pride and love is here...how are you making this a reality??

Obama is too apologetic for me, but I like the risidual effect. We have not yet seen the full blosom of black love with these two because of the campaign strategy to ease a black man into the white house. But I love the risidual effect.

I'm not certain that Barack and Michelle have necessarily brought "back" anything when it comes to black love as much as they have merely illuminated it. It has always existed, but has not always been illuminated for public notice. There are other successful stories of black love in the public eye, too, and they were there before anyone heard of Barack and Michelle. There's Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee, Bill & Camille Cosby, Denzel and Paula Washington, Rodney Peete & Holly Robinson-Peete, Courtney B. Vance & Angela Bassett-Vance, and of course, Will & Jada.

Personally, I have my mother and father along with both sets of grandparents to thank for the visual, emotional, spiritual and psychological demonstrations of such love.

I'm not saying Barack and Michelle aren't representative of that. I'm just saying that their marriage is not representative of anything new.

Blessings...

Dee,
I can agree with that my friend. Indeed, indeed. It is understandable that the existence of that love for us has been around, just not as publicized or noticed.

I monitor fox every day. Even bill O'Reilly was defending Obama today in his interview with his partner Laura Ingrhum. She was so up set with him she began telling O'Reilly how he was helping the liberals take her conservative program from her and others like him and her.

She wants to talk about how Obama and Ayers started Obama's career in his living room. It was interesting to hear Keith Olbermann on Hardball say how it was at the Ramada Inn that that meeting took place at. Oh, well it was also on Hardball I heard about Joe the plumber owning over $1,100 in back taxes and not even having a plumber's liscense.
