What if…: Could Racism Still Be in Play When Considering the Candidates? (2988 hits)

What if things were switched around? Think about it. Would the country's collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit???? [this most certainly must be a rhetorical question!]

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, following the debate, including a three month-old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his college graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)

What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to publicly display a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected a reality, if the tables were turned, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative characteristics in another when there is a color difference.

And, think of this - the candidates' educational backgrounds:

Barack Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

John McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899

Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matan uska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism

Education isn't everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world.

Dr. Hines,
It is not necessary to flip the script. Even with such an impeccable background, they are calling him a socialist, a Marxist, a Muslim, a terrorist sympahtizer, and a street kid who uses drugs. The most complimentary thing his opponents say about him is that he has a gift of rhetoric.

They have accused him of being a celebrity and a rock star -- as if being popular is bad. They have called him elitist -- because he has risen above his circumstances without becoming bitter. The have called him aloof, professorial, and having only an academic familiarity with complex issues -- because he is brilliant and comfortable in a surrounding with other smart people. They have accused him of being presumptive -- because 200,000 Germans came out to hear him speak. They have discounted every high profile endorsement he has received -- Warren Buffet, Colin Powell, and 6 economic Nobel Laureates -- to name a few. They have criticized his ability to single-handedly raise more money than the RNC from nearly 2 million donors giving an average of less than $200.00.

The notion that this race is close is a testimony to the steep uphill climb he has had to ascend to be considered the equal of a hotheaded, low-performing, opportunistic son of privilege. If the script were flipped, it would be Hillary Clinton running against the Republican nominee. He wouldn't have won the Democratic nomination.

Think about it. This son of Africa has had to be Frederick Douglas, W.E.B. DuBois, Ralph Bunche, and Martin Luther King Jr. rolled into one -- to even be considered worthy to compete. Anything less, and we wouldn't be having this conversation. For Black people, there is no pondering if race is an issue. The best line to come from this campaign occured at the Al Smith Charity dinner when Obama said, "Contrary to popular belief, I was not born in a manger. . . I was born on Krypton, and my father -- Jor El -- sent me here to save the earth."

Nothing less than Super Man could overcome the racist hurdles he has had to navigate to get to this point.

By lobbying against his airline, more pressure has been brought to bear on the sensitive Northwest Air Delta Airlines merger currently ongoing hanging precariously in the balance, the airline finally out of their state of bankruptcy protection, which prompted the original attack upon us in Jan 06- it was a retaliatory attack in response to our having filed a written complaint against the airline for lying to my mother and I about why our baggage had not come off the carousel, she and only to find we had been profiled, the baggage locks cut and searched through with a note appended to it as such. As a civil action against the airline still amidst bankruptcy protection at the time did not bode well for corporate interests at hand, retaliatory entrapment ensued and only after my mother and I had successfully passed through security and were already on board, did stewardess Sherrie Caudill accuse her of harboring a “suspicious bag” following which U.S. airport police boarded and an attack ensued.
I had been assured I was not under arrest had not committed any crime and was not being charged- but could not return to Canada and would have to de board. Prompting them to simply give explanation of under what authority they were then acting, they did not respond and instead lit into me with a barrage of tasings and brutality leaving me bloodied in the isle, my mother looking on in horror, whereupon they then attempted to confine her to the plane when realizing in horror, that she was family as witness.
Extensive extrajudicial persecution (framed, covert tribunal housing FBI and Northwest Airlines employees on a illegitimate “jury pool”, threats, stalking, sabotaged mail etc) prompted us to expose their crimes on line.
This spawned repeated attempts via cross border collusion towards our kidnapping or murder by *criminally charged local Canadian Winnipeg police (acting covertly without warrant or charges) on behalf of U.S. judicial and corporate factions including FBI CIA and NSA, in attempt to silence us.

Dr. because my grandmother's saying, "What is done in the dark will always come into the light",has always proven correct, I am glad that things are as they are:

1. Both female VP candidates have been White. They have both brought disgrace to their party in the long run.

2. With the conviction today of Stevens of Alaska, governor Sarah Palin is even closer to a guranteed day of impeachment in Alaska. I am sure that Alaska needs now to save itself from their own votes for her about now!(smile)As any excuse is better than now,right?

The greatest thing that Obama has done in this whole campaign is leaving all of those running against him at a lost as to how to run against him at all. Or have you not noticed this? Obama's rivals were only prepared for what Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton had them so well prepared for. THE ANGRY OVER EMOTIONAL BLACK MAN.then accuse him of playing the race card.

They never did get any of this and they never will so they are fighting with each other to not be on the bottom of the blame game as the Republicans are falling fast down into that endless pit that McCain-Palin keeps digging with every rally.

I know a lot of other Black females(and some males)will be having this nervous break down that I am headed for if these days do not pass faster than they are doing now.

I dtayed in bed until after 12 p.m. today just to make the day go by faster. And, by the way Michelle Obama was on Jay Leno not long ago. Now to Wednsday to see Obama then we will be almost there.

Roger, I can hear it now, "It was the economy and the Republicans Bush as president all as If Obama had nothing to do with it. but, I am so glad about this. the more that race is not on the table then the safer it will be for Obama for right now.

We have the next eight years for Barack Hussein Obama to save the world...our super hero.Obama is going to have the job that FDR had to do. Obama will do it even better as he knows what it is like to be poor.Obama like Oprah were mentored by the same person they will never be able to not put pride in being Black on the back burner.
