Should Oprah be offered a position on Obama's Cabinet?

If they offered would she accept? do you think she would serve well as the Head of the Department of Education?

YES, WHAT IS SHE GOING TO DO AFTER THE TALK SHOW DIE'S....PUT HER IN THE WHITE HOUSE, BUT KEEP HER AWAY FROM MICHELLE..LICKY LICKY..

I could see her as an Ambassador or anything dealing with the improvement of our educational system.

Shai I am just curious about the last part of your comment. I find it amazing that with the lack of proof of anything, that people assume Oprah must be homos*xual. It feeds into the stereotype of all woman that have obtained success and did not marry along the way or had any children. This is most noticable when pertaining to women of color. I really don't want to hear about her best friend Gail. How many of us have best friends that we see as sisters and are very close, our relationships with them does not make us homos*xual, but because she has money and is in the limelight it is suppose to make her one. I just don't get it.

My personal opinion, Oprah would be better off NOT accepting a Cabinet position, unless it is the role of an Ambassador. Despite the glamour, politics can "tie" you up and keep you from "moving or saying" what you "freely" want to "do and say". Oprah recognized her calling years ago...she is at her point of success because she is walking in it (her calling). President Barack Obama is doing the same...He is walking within his calling. It is only when we walk outside of God's will, we won't truly be successful. If and once you know your purpose, you'll fulfill your calling!

I don't think Oprah has the wherewithal to function effectively and efficiently as the Head of the Department of Education. She has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry with her talk shows on cable and all but that alone can't qualify her for a cabinet position.
Politics and entertainment are two roads going in different directions

Hi family..sorry I have not been able to put in my response. My computer and BWC seem incompatible!! I did want to follow up on Marguerite's response to Shai. My beautiful friend Lynda, brought me flowers one day...one of my bff's hugs and takes me out to dinner. We go to the park, we go to the movies, to concerts, to her mom's house, to church and sometimes we bring hubby along!!LOL my point is --I have a very loving relationship with my sister/girlfriends. My orientation is straight. I guess we are very comfortable in our "goddess" clothes! I don't know about "O" and Gail--I just wish them health and happiness!!

I think Oprah will steer clear of politics and strickly serve as a supporter. I feel she has other critierias in areas involving humanitarian interests. I view her as a people personality, one who is good in a supporter's role.

Oprah? Cabinet? Why oh why does ev'one but a few of us treat this woman as if she's God? She has a journalism degree (like Sarah Palin)! She's the scholastic equal to many of us here. So she lucked into a talk show that was a hit. Does that make her such an oracle? Are ppl who have money poised to advise the rest of us? I think not! YES, I tune in every day @ 4 to see the topic. She does well with fashion, relationships. I wish she'd do more on those. And I DO ADMIRE fact that she has promoted BOOKS like no one else. But I can't stomach when she presents herself as a pied piper of everything. And us as the mice. (Admit it: u've noticed how she REPEATS her every utterance as if it's gold and we @ home are all taking notes.) She's really down on us fat people. 'Your Best Life?' Thanks, but I'll decide what makes mine so.

She's has a larger audience than she'd ever have in politics, so she shouldn't crowd the 2 professions

I agree with an Ambassador role. She does so much as it is with building schools in Africa, and I could see a link between Education and Stewardship..but what would they call it? World Education and Relations Ambassador? hmmm.....

No. I think she will be much too busy wwith her new television network, OWN (OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK) .

Viola Dunn-Thigpen Wednesday, December 22nd 2010 at 8:56PM

If she was offered the position, I doubt that she would accept.

When you achieve the wealth of astronomical amounts, it is not a question of how busy you are when the President asks you to step up and make a difference and impact on an entire NATION's educational paradigm. In this case you can "never" be to busy because "busy" becomes relative.

Too busy doing what? her "own" thing? Well she has done that. Generosity is being confused here with an obligation to an entire nation. If you notice other philanthropists, (and she is no more generous than they lot of them,)for example the Rockefeller Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation etc. sit on Boards, head Commissions and take a sweeping approach to give back across a wide plain,to understand this question requires a mentality that puts nation above personal for those who have achieved monumental wealth.

This cannot be answered in terms of how we live our middle class lives. It would not be for an advancement per se, but as has been mentioned for her understanding of the challenges to achieving wealth in America and what you do after you reach that pinnacle. She went to college, and studied till her upper freshman years leaving short of one credit, which I perfectly understand, and then graduated.

She is a tremendous role model no matter how you approach the issue, and would be a positive force for students.

...sorry, Oprah owns 3 hit cable talk shows+Oprah...

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

Shai, Oprah's TALK show will not die...can you say "Oprah owns two hit talkshows on cable besides the Oprah program right now"!!!!. And can you say, "Oprah will be introducing 'OWN', a whole cable network in 09"!!!

The letters O-W-N is not a play on her name as it stands for Oprah O-W-Ns every thing about her NETWORK!!!!!!!!!!

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

It is my belief that General Powell will become the education department head and Oprah will become an Ambassador.

I fear the any thing related to 'education' and Oprah will bring back up her school in Africa. As I understand it she is being sued by that head mistress...
