I found this information here on the Internet. A lot of Blacks suffer from this disease, which can be fatal. I had a girlfriend who is ailed by this disease.

Get support for sickle cell anemia by focusing on your unique nutritional needs. According to research or other evidence, the following self-care steps may help you manage this kind of chronic anemia:

Fight back with fish oil
Reduce the frequency of severe pain episodes by taking a daily fish oil supplement providing 33 mg of EPA and 23 mg of DHA for every 2.2 pounds of body weight

Think zinc
Under the supervision of a doctor, take a daily supplement of 100 mg of zinc, plus 2 mg of copper, to help prevent cell damage and speed healing of leg ulcers associated with sickle cell anemia

Fill up on fluids
Drink plenty of water and other fluids to maintain good circulation

Take a test
Have your blood homocysteine levels checked to find out if daily folic acid supplements of 1 to 4 mg are right for you, or to discover if you have a vitamin B12 deficiency that requires treatment

Christopher Thank-You for taking the time to not only post a comment on Healthly Remedies, sharing a personal piece of your life dealings with someone with the same situation as I.

The as you might say "Carch 22" Problem is the Normal Remedies that were Healthly for People Dealing with Sickle Cell Anemia are now even more Dangerous and Unhealthly for us.

Iron Overload means Fish and many other Foods that have Iron or are High in Iron are
Dangerous for our Bodies.

Dealing with Sickle Cell Anemia is one thing because it is Inherited, Dealing with Iron Overload is not acceptable it is a form of Neglect and very Unfair and these Doctors need to be held Accountable.

Blood Transfusions are high in Iron which were used when Sickle Cell Patients were in a very bad Crisis because our Iron is always Low yet Chronic Transfusions Overload us with Iron which Damages your Kidney, Heart and Several other things. The Blood Transfusions were being used as a Temporary Cure instead of either seperating the Red Blood Cells from the Units of Blood which is called Erythrocytapheresis and much more Expensive or admitting patients to the Hospital and using the Pain Medication with the Saline Solution which pushes the stuck cells through the body and letting the body heal Normall.

In my Personal Situation and some others that I know my Doctor new the Dangers of Blood Transfusions Iron Overload, was teaching about it and wrote a book and 2 Years later Transfused me me evry Approximate 90 days for 3 Years and almost killed me my body was getting ready to go into Cardiac Arrest, my Iron Count was Approximately 3600 when Sickle Cell Patients always have Low Iron which is under 200, the Normal Iron Count is 200.

This needs to be Addressed, Awareness, Doctors Checking Iron Levels and more which is what I am trying to do.

I am trying to get Emails, Numbers and more from Our Beautiful Black People this Disease Affects 1 in 300 African Americans, 1 in 1000 Caucasions, Europe, Italy, Greece, Hispanics and more...

Hello Ms. Ward-Qualls--

I am an avid reader. I was going through my back issues of National Geographic -those marrow transfusions are beginning to take a foot hold. My college friend from Honduras, used to get so sick, when we were in school. I think of her often. Let me tie this in to Obama's Administration--on the National Science team is a geneticist that augurs some real cellular opportunity for treatment or cure for all people you named. Be well. Glad you made it.
