Obama: Offer $4,000 Toward a College Education in Exchange for 100 hours of service
I call this the Dream vision--I worked two tours of Americorps for $6,500!(2 years)
The new American Opportunity Tax Credit that will ensure the first $4,000 of a college education is completely free for most Americans,and will cover two thirds the cost of tuition at the average public college or university.
Recipients of this credit will be required to conduct 100 hours of public service a year!! (emphasis mine),either during the school year or over the summer months.
He also believes we need to raise the threshold in the Federal Work-Study Program from 7 to 25 percent so that more students can afford to engage in public service.
This will help more than 200,00 college students a year complete part-time public service while they are in school.
In this generous offer there is a match a law school in Calif. that will offer free tuition to the first 60 students of its incoming class!
