Let's discuss that. What would Blacks have to give up? this list can and must be expanded by our collective input. Lets' begin withthe inventions Blacks have created, that were stolen by the hegemonic society and subsequently folded into the history of White America, marginilizing the solid inventions which even as we speak today are part of every part of the American infracstructure, but only those who diligently pursue knowledge of Black history are aware of. Let's start with this computer and the Black man who invented the microchip now used world wide who died in California a few years ago? do we know his name? does white America know his name? and does the world recognize?
Assimilate, why should we assimilate? We were taken from our lands and made to toil in the fields and work for someone else while our identities were stolen, and our culture. Assimilate I don't think so, it is time to carve our own future.
So you think Black American should retain a separate identity? from the white American? has that really served the community well?

I think that the culture we have today is a result of the past. It's not that our Black parents and grandparents did not have a desire to assimilate like other immigrant groups; rather they were consistently denied the opportunity to do so.
Is it possible to participate in American society, create value, work cooperatively with other ethnic groups, while still maintaining our unique cultural worldview? I think so... Jews and Asians have done exactly that. The question is what will Blacks be expected to give up in order to do so?
