The subtext was clear: don't the Brits know they're being had? I feel their pain, having experienced similar pangs when the Duchess of York popped up in America as a diet guru. When a country goes to the trouble of consigning one of its celebrities to the dustbin, it expects everyone to abide by the ruling. Unfortunately, the celebrity gets it into his or her head that people across the Pond may not have heard all the bad stories...
