Tom Joyner Is Replaced By Steve Harvey In The Chicago Radio Market
(Taylor Media Services) In a surprise move in the syndicated radio world last week, powerhouse Chicago radio station V103 (WVAZ-FM 102.7) dropped the Tom Joyner Morning Show and replaced it with The Steve Harvey Show. Thus, after 16 years the “Fly Jock” will no longer be heard on a Chicago radio station even though Joyner will remain the most widely syndicated Black DJ in the nation.
However, the change was not a complete surprise. The Steve Harvey Show is syndicated by the Clear Channel Company which also owns V103. Meanwhile, The Tom Joyner Morning Show is distributed by and associated with Black radio giant Radio One. There was no immediate indication as to whether another Chicago area radio station will pick up the Joyner show.
Personal message from Tom Joyner to his fans...
We always say that when we come back from vacation something big has either happened or is about to happen. Well, this one topped them all. After 16 years, the Tom Joyner Morning Show won’t be broadcast on a local Chicago radio station, at this time. For Sybil and me, our relationship with the Chicago radio listeners goes back more than 20 years and believe me it has not ended by any stretch of the imagination.
Friends and family in the Chicago market will continue to listen to the Party with a Purpose on www.BlackAmericaWeb.com . So this isn’t the end, it’s just a change, so please pass his e-mail along to them...
