I wrote this poem on a Mother's Day in 2003. I was driving home from church when I saw some rose bushes. There were two red rose bushes and in the middle sat a yellow rose bush. I thought, I'm much more like that yellow rose bush. I'm a yellow rose among the red. I went home and wrote the following poem.

A YELLOW ROSE AMONG

I am a Yellow Rose Among the Red.
Right here in the Lord's flowerbed.
Though the red roses are fine.
I'm still the Yellow Rose.

I am a Yellow Rose Among the Red.
Right here in the Lord's flowerbed.
With his mighty soil to warm me, I can feel,
He commands me to do his will.
His loving kindness guides me.
I am the Yellow Rose still.

I am a Yellow Rose Among the Red.
With God's given honor on my head.
The red roses grow ever bright.
I am the Yellow Rose in sight.
The red roses try to overtake me.
They grow large and bold.
Though they have the beauty and plenty.
They cannot cover up the gold.
For I am still the Yellow Rose.

I am The Yellow Rose Among the Red.
Thriving in the Lord's flowerbed.

i just wrote a free verse for an elementary school graduating class entitled 'you see, it's all elementary'. the highlight is "2 things you'll need to help you find your place. one is to embrace, positive friends. the other is the books you've read or will read. these 2 things will influence the kind of middle-school life you'll lead."

Here's one I had saved on my laptop since November and revised for you all:

THANKFUL

I AM THANKFUL
FOR THE GOOD WOMAN
WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE FINE MAN
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR MY TEENAGE NIECE
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES,
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME,
NOT OUT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED.

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER DINNER
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FAMILY.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE.

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME.

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE RECESSION
BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH .

FOR THE PARKING SPOT
I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING
AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION .

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM WARM.

FOR MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS
WHO PLAY THEIR MUSIC TOO LOUD
BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.

FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE THINKING OF ME.

AND FINALLY, FOR THE MEMBERS OF BIA
WHO MAKE HARSH COMMENTS ON MY BLOGS
BECAUSE I HAVE PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT
MY VOICE AND MY THOUGHTS.

(WATCH IT, DON'T LAUGH!!!)

Wonderful to see, others celebrating National Poetry Month. Here's my contribution for you. “ESCALATORS”

This machination’s continuous heartbeat
The up, down and around
Cogs, gears and wheels turning endlessly – the hardware
Electronic hums and lights flash silently in chips and panels
But that’s just the software
The people you watch though…
I find them the most interesting
As you go up and they come down
You stare at the strange faces
Wearing designer suits or vintage treats
Or just something they picked up on the street
Hustling to and fro
From work, to school, to an indiscreet meet
You catch glances
Make eye contact
Each wondering the same thing…
What do YOU do?
Where are YOU going off to?
Questions never really answered
Except in your own imagination
The wonders and enigmas…
The people of the travellating escalators.

I wrote this from the little kid in me. When I read it front of an audience it's most affective to bring a smile...Hope it brings you one.

You can't catch me.
You can't catch me.

Oh no!
You caught me.

As April isalso a sign of spring...

What is the first sign of spring
Is it Mr. Robin or the song he brings
Is it the sky so bright and clear...or the fragrance of flowers blooming so near
