The CW has done it again. Canceled another minority show- "The Game"

It was bad enough that after 8 years and numerous awards, including putting this station on the map, that the CW canceled "Girlfriends" without notice and not even a proper finale. Now they have canceled "The Game" which is a spin-off of "Girlfriends" only to replace it with shows that cater to non-minority audiences. Granted everyone may not have watched either of these shows and that is fine, but it does not change the fact that when flipping through channels, less and less minorities are being shown in a positive light on any station. Flooding of emails, faxes, phone calls and petitons have not saved any of these shows and there appears to be a true level of discrimination in programming going on.

I am beyond appalled to have found out about the demise of yet another minority show. Please don't believe the hype about it is being done because of ratings. Everyone knows that any show that is placed on a Friday or Saturday slot will always get low ratings, because most people are out of the home during these two days. Anyone in the industry knows that if a show is placed on either of these days, it spells the death of the show.

This station is apart of a partnership between CBS & Warner Bros, but is listed under CBS: here is a link to the stations for various states, as indicated on the CBS website:

http://cbslocal.com/Stations/Default.aspx

CBS Radio also just did a major swap with Clear Channel for 5 of Clear Channels major markets, area that are also predominately minority areas.

Maybe this information means nothing to some of you and maybe it means a lot. For those that it matters to, please take the time to inform as many as you can so that each one of us can let our voices of displeasure about this be heard. This is like discrimination in programming.

The bottom line is this, folks will always have something to say about how our people are portrayed. How is it that a young woman Medical Student-now a Dr.) equate with being a hoochie or golddigger( who came up with these titles for women in the first place) or a mother that guided her son's professional career (ended up owning her own management company) fit into that equation or even the young woman (who's father developed the lid and has more money than enough and owns her own boutique) fit into that equation. It was not about the lack of ratings, this show and Girlfriends were getting plenty of ratings on Monday Nights, this station strategically moved each show around to days that they would get less and less ratings until they could justify their removal. Friday and Saturday is and always have been a death to a show day. That is a known fact in the industry. As for what to do, boycotting the advertisers as been effective in more ways then one. As for a pilot, I don't have any reservations about it and usually all shows reflect the experiences of the people writing them. As for entertainment, what one may find entertaining another may not.

Fact is everything about our people is not positive, but it must be a balance of the good with the bad. What may apply on one end of the country may not apply on the other end. We have some people that have the money and the access to develop diversity in programming, but they are not coming together to do so. TV One is fighting to keep Bob Johnson from starting another Station catering to minority viewership. I'm more like people please, instead of fighting about it why not come together. Magic Johnson, Oprah and many more have the access, connections and money, yet everyone wants to just do their own thing and not come together.

I didn't have interest in this sitcome, because I prefer the re-runs of what I consider more original sitcomes like "Three's Company" & "A Different World", but I do understand your feelings about this sister. (((smiles)))

Mozell: It is ok to contact me, I have no problem with that.

Jen: like both of those shows also and especially the positive impact that " A Different World" had on the viewers, did you know that after that sitcom air the increase in students of color applying to college increased sharply and how convenient all of a sudden it was no longer on air, but today the youth have that mess of a show " College Hill". For me at the end of the day, as much as I may like this show, it really has more to do with the fact that shows which have minority cast as leads or a large number of minorities in them are disappearing from the channels and the airwaves for that fact.

I thank the both of you for your comments.

LORD HAVE MERCY...First "Girlfriends" gets cancelled, I'm no longer able to see my girl Angela Bassett on "ER" and now this? It seems like "Everybody Hates Chris" is the only Black show out there now with staying power. Even though "The Game" was a battle-of-the-s*xes show, we as a people should support more of these Black sitcoms

And let me add that I have watched "The Cosby Show" and "Different World" reruns for several years during my childhood. I still do on the Nickelodeon channel today, (OK, what kind of GROWN woman watches Nickelodeon LOL). I majored in business adminstration and accounting and graduated from community college at age 20.

Everybody Hates Chris is on their chopping block also, so you won't have that for long either. Hey I watch Nick too and I'm older that you :) LOL. As for the battle of the s*xes, that is true in real life in any business world, it is always a battle when some believe that woman are to be seen and not heard or are suppose to just step aside or better yet step behind , hence the phrase" Behind every successful man is a good woman supporting him all the way" It should be no battle when we are suppose to be partners, which work side by side as a team and the realization that women have goals and dreams that should be supported by the men in their lives at the same level, we as women support the dreams and goals of the men in our lives. That is a whole other issue, but anywho. Thanks for your comments also Sister Siebra.

I LOVED "The Game" and "Girlfriends". It's shameful. They were good shows. I guess I'll be stuck with reruns. Aw, Man!

Blessings...
