Politics from eyes of an Ebony Mom: TX Rep Says Asians Should Change Their Names to Make It Easy on Majority

From the land of the absurd comes Texas Republican Rep. Betty Brown who suggests that Asians should change their names because that would be easier than everyone else learning Chinese. Brown said “Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand it’s a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?” Brown sees nothing wrong with her statement. She stands by it. It reflects a slave/master mentality. The master had the right to call the slave anything. It is this kind of mindset that plagues the Republican Party, and that is why the tent can not expand.
