AP - The most prominent American museum bearing witness to violence against Jews was the scene of bloodshed, its doors breached by an assailant who opened fire with a rifle, killing a guard in an attack linked to a white supremacist's hate. Law enforcement officials said James W. von Brunn, a white supremacist, was under investigation in the shooting and that his car was found near the museum and tested for explosives. The weapon was a .22-caliber rifle, they added. They spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss the investigation just beginning.

KILLING AT THE UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM – AFP: 'The deadly shooting at the Holocaust Memorial Museum was further evidence of an uptick in hate crimes which have surged since the election of US President Barack Obama, experts said. Hate group monitors said the attack at the museum just blocks from the White House, which claimed the life of a black security guard, reflected the deep-seated rage and impotence felt by white supremacists unable to accept the ascent of the nation's first African-American president.'
