What Are Your Thoughts on Montessori Education?

I used to work with someone who told me to look into Montessori education when it came time for my child to go to school. This coworker told me he put his two children through Montessori and he told me it was the best thing he did. Although I have been researching Montessori, I wanted to find out if anyone else has any experiences that they can share with me. Negative and positive responses are welcomed!! Thanks family.

If your child is extremely gifted it may not be the best thing. I'm not too familiar w/Montessori except that when my son was around three he attended a day care whose director sat on a Montessori school board, and b/c my son was as smart as he is, the director told me that Montessori wouldn't challenge him enough and didn't recommend it all. So in this case we chose a private school where he was fast-forwarded into first grade where he graduted atop his class at just five y/o. There are usually smaller class sizes and [at least in our case] you actually have curriculm input.

Now, I'm not sure that's the norm for all or most private schools, this one in Houston did it for us; but the beauty is they weren't bound by a broad curriculm like ISDs or Montessoris are across the nation. (Plus it was Black-onwed, so maybe they were a little more motivated to help crank out the next POTUS. ;)

Just my $0.02

Brother Amos your $ 0.02 worth is always greatly appreciated. I won't rule out private school either. I think any personal money you invest into a child's education is a step in the right direction and sure to yield big returns. I was speaking to a parent who was practically discouraging me from trying anything other than the tax paid school systems. Of course I was polite and thanked the person for the imput, but you know where the imput went ... in the ear I was holding the receiver and out the other. (((Lol)))

Brother Earl I would love to hear more about your friend's experience. In what ways did Montessori place the child on a fast track, was he at the top of his class in many things? Please expound for me because I'm very interested to know. Thanks!!

I'm not helpful in advising on this , but stopped in to see if I could learn a bit from others.

Did Our Leader President Baraka Hussein Obama go to a Montessori School?
Did Our Supreme Justice Clarence Jamal Thomas go to a Montessori School?

Sister Irma apparently Montessori was short lived in the U.S. after the publication of the booklet, The Montessori System Examined, a harshly critical booklet by William Heard Kilpatrick, a Dewey-school pedagogue; by 1920, Montessori schools had virtually disappeared from the US. Now there are about 5000 Montessori schools in the U.S. since their resurgence in the 1960s. { Wikipedia information}

Jen, I was suprised to even see the name, because it seem to have been a fad (or the social rage for a short time)here and just vanished. This was years ago...
