Is the French Govt right in their decision to ban Muslim Women from Wearing Burquas?

..."Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, has said that the burqa, a garment worn by many Muslim women, has no place in France as it was a sign of the subjugation of women"...

I was reading an article today concerning the French Parliament discussing banning women from wearing burqas in France. France also banned girls from wearing hijabs to school. I've heard some things over the years about France's failure to address problems of racism and poverty that are deeply entrenched in their society, but usually ignored until something happens. Usually the French govt's response is slow and inadequate probably the reason minorities choose to riot rather than be law abiding and quiet citizens in their public housing complexes. It's looking like the U.S. is doing a whole heck of a lot better on race issues than the French. What do you guys think about the French Govt trying to ban burquas?

Brother Earl is that what the French are called...froggies? I didn't realize that. They need to get that stick out of their you know whats. It ain't all about them you know.

Brother Mozell that's messed up in my opinion for the French to be so culturally insensitive. What can we expect from those fools on CNN which is the reason I try to read and watch news from other countries' perspectives to balance my views. People always talk rubbish on our news channels...especially Lou Dobbs when he speaks of China. Why does he have to say Communist China when he refers to the Chinese? That really irritates the heck out of me. ((((Lol)))

I don't accept nor condone the French government's take on this matter. But my opinion is not what you wear, but what's in your heart. In the NOI, the decision to wear headscarf, or to take it off, is your personal business as long as the rest of your body is appropriately dressed.

Yet, the real problem is not in the decision a woman makes, but in the politicization of that decision. The problem lies in the moral inconsistency and the use of double standards in addressing an issue concerning individual choice and freedom of expression. The only morally defendable position is in denying the state the right to either force or prohibit people to follow practices they genuinely believe to be required by their religious traditions, particularly when these practices do not violate the rights of others.

opps...I thought you said CNN. CBN ... I'm not surprised Brother Mozell about anything these religious organizations say these days. Honestly, I am not shocked at all.

siebra are you sarkozys hearty follower?
your statement has nothing to do with AlIslaam or the Nations of Islaam.
Muhammad(as) and his wives were given a directive from the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth that they cover themselves, men and women, the Guide of Muhammad was AlQur'aan.----
They were also given a directive that there is "no compulsion in Life/Religion"---"that right is clearly distinct from wrong".
Siebra, this has nothing to do with your heart, hearts are full of blood, for you not to follow AlQur'aan means that you are siebra, not muhammad.

Brother Robert... you are so crazy..."hearts are full of blood". I don't think Sister Siebra meant the physical heart, but rather the spirit/soul which is often referred to as "heart". (((LMBO)))
