Re: Your thoughts on Al Sharpton's comments of the Press' "double standard' coverage of Michael Jackson

Yesterday AL Sharpton spoke to the First A.M.E Church in Los Angeles yesterday about what he felt to be a double standard in the media's coverage of Michael Jackson. He stated that some elements of the media have tried to destroy the legacy and image of a man who has broken every record in the history of the music business.

He went further to state that there was a double standard in the press coverage of Michael Jackson as compared to other entertainers who had questionable pasts when they died and that the media didn't degrade them before their funerals. He asked that the press have one standard which was to show the same respect for Michael and his family like they showed to Frank Senatra, Elvis Presley, and everybody else (when they died).

{ I think he hit the nail on the head!!}

He may have hit the nail on the head, but someone needs to hit him in the head.

While I'm enlightened and entertained by the guy, but he is no Jesse Jackson -- although many lump them together. Unfortunately.

That being said, I wish they both would stand up for someone OTHER than a Black person -- just ONCE -- to enhance their credibility.

If I were to go outside right now and murder an innocent White girl, you won't hear a word from the reverand. Why? Because he only gives a damn what happens to Blacks. Don't get me wrong -- I give a damn, too -- but it's not all I give a damn about. If I had the camera's and mic's attention like he does, I'd take a stand for more than just one in a million causes and let the world know that I'm, indeed, a humanist first ... not a racist.

Again, just my $0.02 cents.

Al couldn't have said it any better to those children yesterday: "There was nothing strange about your daddy. The only thing strange was what he had to deal with!!!"

I haven't been here since I posted this blog and there has been a lot of dialogue here about hitting AL on the head. (((Lol))) I think AL was right in what he said about some media only covering the negative aspects of Michael's life before his funeral. In fact, I tuned off to the media days prior to the memorial and even now. I don't always agree with Sharpton, but he did speak a truth on this one. And by the way, I also thought Michael's Memorial was nicely done. The thing that stuck out to me most was the comments and examples made by Magic Johnson and Marlon Jackson on the simplicity of Michael. Magic said he couldn't believe Michael ate KFC and Marlon said Michael always wore the same shoes. I found the comment about the shoes really interesting so much so that now when I'm watching MJ's video footage...I check out his shoes.

Well Craig it is time to step in and speak for logic vs emotional out burst...did you see Al Sharpton as a media talking head on a regular basis before or after the Jena 6 issue? After he did go BACK into the Black community as a Black leader over being a cable news talking head?Or have you even given this a thought.(smile)

Al Sharpton has neve failed to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Black community over the wishes / desires of the main stream media and Craig only selective memory as emotion alwas has has so many people over looking the real role that Al Sharpton plays in this game of getting media time in prime time.(smile)

Black people never get PRIME TIME COVERAGE!!!!!!

They know how racism stays in power playing the emotional over fact game in educating the majority public main stream cable news watchers...and since it works so well with those like you then why change this divide and conquor strategy that has always in the past and still works in the present...

Hay Jen, who got more media coverage, Michael Jacskon or Don Imus, both of these was related to the music industry were they not/ both envolved giving Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson media speaking time did they not?

Oh, lets not forget the demeaning racist statements of Bill O'Reilly and the one of Don Imus over our public air waves,who got the prime time media coverage and loss of job? but, Jena8 had gotten Jackson and Sharpton fired, did it not for them going back to help the Black community. but, this is fine as we ended up with a Black president to make up for this media trying to bring down by way of racism, bias of the main stream media playing the emotion game. And, the media did do their best with the Obama family and where they chosed to worship God for twenty years...how soon we for get.(smile)

Rev. Al Sharpton never turned against Obama no more than he turned against the NOI to be able to run for president as Jacskon did.It was fitting for our Black community that Al Sharpton was able to play a major part in M.J.'s memoral yesterday and Jackson playing a minor role.

More news form the black community that we must move way beyond the main stream media to learn about what goes on in our own community...I am so grateful for this site and for those like you Jen, my sister, Thank you for this post...Thank you all of my brothers and sisters and love you Craig. (smile)
