A crucial week for Sotomayor

A crucial week for Sotomayor

Jen Fad · Friday, July 10th 2009 at 1:43PM · 373 views
Judge Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation hearings begin Monday, and that means we're one step closer to getting her on the Supreme Court. Since President Obama nominated her back in May, Judge Sotomayor's brilliance and unique legal qualifications have stood strong against fierce scrutiny. Law enforcement officials have praised her tough-mindedness and experience as a prosecutor and trial judge, and just this week she earned the highest possible rating from the American Bar Association. There's no doubt -- the President picked the right person for the job.

Next week, the Senate hearings will once again focus the press on this historic nomination, and those who are desperate to play politics with the President's nominee will see this as their last, best chance. Your support for Judge Sotomayor at this critical step will make a big difference. Visit Organizing for America's online action center where you can write a letter to a local paper, call your senators, and share the facts with friends and neighbors.

I don't understand what the testimony of a firerfighter has to do with a Judge's confirmation to the high court?!

..."You know that, "the Blacks and Hispanics are always trying to kill each other" which got over used in the last major election!"...

Sister Irma I guess I wasn't into politics at that time, because I missed all of that.

..."They need to bring out the fact that Ricci has made a career out of filing lawsuits. He’s hardly the innocent victim here"...

Brother Maxwell please expound more on this Ricci fellow if you would.

Now that's real interesting Brother Clark. Do the Conservatives want us to take what this person (Ricci) says seriously?! Thanks for the information as always it is appreciated.

..."The Supreme Court will finally begin to gain the expanded diversity it has desperately needed for so long (because honestly since Thurgood Marshall we haven't had any--Clarence Thomas doesn't really count, lol)"...

Sister Mwannesi I absolutely agree with you. He (Thomas) doesn't count!

Clark, I do hope like me you were old enough to have been interested in the confirmation of Clarance Thomas and like me watched every minute of it that I could spare. This one I will tape just as I did the one of Thomas...

Actually I will go so far as to say as we have gone from using a Black female to try and bring down a Black man in order to keep him off the Supreme Court bench to having A Puerto Rican female with the use of the Republican right-wing trying to keep her of the supreme Court bench is major, major progress in America.LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have already noticed that those who will be up for the votes in 2010 are trying to get our of the public's eyes...but, it is just too much to try to believe that the Republicans, especailly the (pure)base is ready or willing to admit that they are really where they are because some people out side of their racist world voted them into office!!! Especially since governor Palin is still seen as major player for them in 2012 as is Rush Limbaugh.(smile)

If the Republicans believe that Sonia Sotomajor does not have a Catholic base and a minority base ready and willing to vote against them if they play dirty with this female then may the God that they love protect them because they will need him; because they will be up against people voting by Ethnic rules of unity in the 'real world' for real this time around !! The minority bloc vote has never lost any elections in America.(smile)

Jen, my sister, thank you for this public notice. I can not wait...C-H-A-N-G-E is H-E-R-E(smile)

...for those of us who are of any age will be carried back to the "good old days when the White racist had to prove how they were more racist than the person running against them"! And, what a comfort it is going to be for us who have reached this point and seeing things we never expected to see in this life time, like a Black president and not just a female of color on the Supreme Court but more than a TOKEN of color there!!!!!!!!

Just know that we will be laughing all the way to the polls in 2010 as we did in 2008, because we have come too far to go backward oreven a half of a step backward in our gaining more political power progress. Yes the joker is now the Republican right-wing (or the racist party) will have this confermation as their last best stand as they existed during the Bush era or pre-minority becoming the majority era in the United Sataes of American government in our nation's capitol...Peace and Blessings to us all as BIA...

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

Sister, I guess when the Republican right-wing find out the purpose of this fireman then we will all know.(smile)It is to show that they are not racist but Judge Sotomajor is not only a racist but is a Judge with bad judgement; sort of like a to 4 huh?(smile)

I do believe those claims of the perfect family values along with those old stand bys of how badly the Blacks and the Hispanics hate each other used by the Republicans in 2009, they will not be able to use in 2010 after these hearings.

You know that, "the Blacks and Hispanics are always trying to kill each other" which got over used in the last major election!LOL

Jen, I doubt if you missed this .but failed to get past the racist codes. I say this because of these remarks were used mostly in Las vagas(mispelled) when Hillary & the 'republicans need to go against Obama in a political correct way. did you miss how Hillary had to fire one of her campaing heads in Vagas for this being so open and honest on what was said in relationship to this?!?they wer so dependant on the Hispanic votes of the hotel workers and in Pa. where they needed the Whitel CATHOLIC votes so much. Notice how Catholics and Hispanics and service workers go hand in hand, but it can not be said in "public"?(smile)

This was he theme when she came out here in my part of Calif. where Sacramento is and countless farm workers. Oh, and in case you do not knnow that the majority race here is Hispanic then now you know it. for example if you go into our local Walmart, you will either have to know spanish or spend time trying to see the english writting on the iles in the grocery departments and do not let me start on how you may have to change your cooking habits when you buy foods(smile).

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

Sister Jen, I have not read your blog about Senator Graham as related to sotomajor in the hearing today yet, but I will, because the themes of the names of these two blogs about Judge Sotomajor I will be using in my next ONLY IN AMERICA IV blog as this as "I" see it is what the right-wing are trying to do is nothing but a 21 century Spanish Inquestiton!!!!!!!!!

This hearing is going to try and use this Judge's rights to freedom of speech, gender and her ethnic back ground to cruxify her in their bid for another round of extending and expanding racism in America through their ploitical position and their powers over their voters...
