BLACK PEOPLE PLEASE READ AND HEED!!!

Peace To All,

The sad thing about this article is that the essence of it is true. The truth hurts. I just hope this sets more Black people in motion towards making real progress. Chris Rock, a Black comedian, even joked that Blacks don't read. Help prove them wrong! Read and pass on.

PLEASE NOTE:

This was sent to me through Yahoo groups. For those of you who never seen this article, this is very deep. This is a heavy piece and a Caucasian wrote it:

THEY ARE STILL OUR SLAVES We can continue to reap profits from the Blacks without the effort of physical slavery. Look at the current methods of containment that they use on themselves: IGNORANCE, GREED, and SELFISHNESS.

Their IGNORANCE is the primary weapon of containment. A great man once said, "The best way to hide something from Black people is to put it in a book." We now live in the Information Age. They have gained the opportunity to read any book on any subject through the efforts of their fight for freedom, yet they refuse to read. There are numerous books readily available at Borders, Barnes &Noble, and Amazon.com, not to mention their own Black Bookstores that provide solid blueprints to reach economic equal ity (which should have been their fight all along), but few read consistently, if at all.

GREED is another powerful weapon of containment. Blacks, since the abolition of slavery, have had large amounts of money at their disposal. Last year they spent 10 billion dollars during Christmas, out of their 450 billion dollars in total yearly income (2.22%).

Any of us can use them as our target market, for any business venture we care to dream up, no matter how outlandish, they will buy into it. Being primarily a consumer people, they function totally by greed. They continually want more, with little thought for saving or investing.

They would rather buy some new sneaker than invest in starting a business. Some even neglect their children to have the latest Tommy or FUBU, And they still think that having a Mercedes, and a big house gives them "Status" or that they have achieved their Dream.

They are fools! The vast majority of their people are still in poverty because their greed holds them back from collectively making better communities.

With the help of BET, and the rest of their black media that often broadcasts destructive images into their own homes, we will continue to see huge profits like those of Tommy and Nike. (Tommy Hilfiger has even jeered them, saying he doesn't want their money, and look at how the fools spend more with him than ever before!). They'll continue to show off to each other while we build solid communities with the profits from our businesses that we market to them.

SELFISHNESS, ingrained in their minds through slavery, is one of the major ways we can continue to contain them. One of their own, Dubois said that there was an innate division in their culture. A "Talented Tenth" he called it. He was correct in his deduction that there are segments of their culture that has achieved some "form" of success. However, that segment missed the fullness of his work. They didn't read that the "Talented Tenth" was then responsible to aid The Non-Talented Ninety Percent in achieving a better life. Instead, that segment has created another class, a Buppie class that looks down on their people or aids them in a condescending manner. They will never achieve what we have. Their selfishness does not allow them to be able to work together on any project or endeavor of substance. When they do get together, their selfishness lets their egos get in the way of their goal. Their so-called help organizations seem to only want to promote their name without making any real change in their community.

They are content to sit in conferences and conventions in our hotels, and talk about what they will do, while they award plaques to the best speakers, not to the best doers. Is there no end to their selfishness? They steadfastly refuse to see that TOGETHER EACH ACHIEVES MORE (TEAM)

They do not understand that they are no better than each other because of what they own, as a matter of fact, most of those Buppies are but one or two pay checks away from poverty. All of which is under the control of our pens in our offices and our rooms.

Yes, we will continue to contain them as long as they refuse to read, continue to buy anything they want, and keep thinking they are "helping" their communities by paying dues to organizations which do little other than hold lavish conventions in our hotels. By the way, don't worry about any of them reading this letter, remember, 'THEY DON'T READ!!!!

Brothers and Sisters, prove them wrong! Please make copies of this article and pass this on. (AFTER READING IT, THAT IS.) It is important that you keep at least one copy for yourself.

Love 2 Live & Live 2 Love,

I have and still preach education, we do need to read, we do need to trust, we do need to be better to our own. Forgive and help support each other. Its sad to read this today, but it should be in front of eveyone. But will they read it! God help us!

I read that article years ago. I doubt seriously that a White person wrote it -- but a Black that wanted to light a fire under his people. But that's not why I'm commenting. THIS is why I'm commenting ...

"But, most importantly, reading is not our solution. Our solution is that we need God’s help through a genuine prophet that would lead us out of this subjugation and into sovereignty."

I could go on for hours on this type of backwards thinking by Black folk -- but I think it speaks for itself.

...{"But, most importantly, reading is not our solution. Our solution is that we need God’s help through a genuine prophet that would lead us out of this subjugation and into sovereignty."}...

Brother Craig what you have said has "hit the nail on the head". God has heard and soon we shall all see the rise of many Black people into leadership roles and business ownership for which are our rightful places in this country after all our ancestors did sacrifice their blood, sweat, and tears for us to have our place in this land called the United States of America. God is in control.

So many great responses! Now my take is this. I have been an avid reader since I learn to read. My father taught me how to read before I started school. Although reading has deeply enriched my life I have come to understand that everyone does not receive inspiration through reading books. The point is inspiration. Some receive inspiration through music, dance, art and other creative measures. The point is be inspired! I wouldn't worry about what some man says about a particular cultural reading but I am concern that many of us look in the wrong places for inspiration. Inspiration is of spirit and it raises our souls to a level of God experience. I am concerned that many blacks are selfish, greedy and self-sabatoging from lack of inspiration. and knowledge. I am also concern that we have not learn to unite because we have given ourselves over to intellect and selfishness, which are ego traits. Many say education is power but I contend, education in what? What are we educating ourselves in today? Are our degreeds and alumni associations helping us to love one another, value one another or for God's sake, forgive one another? When it is all said and done it does not matter what you have read or where you got your degree, if you have one. All that matters is love in all of its infinite forms of expressions. Peace and Love

As for me as long as we keep taking ourselves out side of our lives and allowing others to determine anyone of us, then I will say as I always do...be happy doing this...

As for me,I stand by I am so many different peoples wearing so many different hats and my life changes each and every moment of the day as does my environment therefore I am so unique only I can evaluate and valuate me, no ifs ,ands or conjunctions!!!!!!

but the thinking of any individual is subjective...our main problems come over this because we try to make this objective and up for testing and retesting an it coming out the same!!!!A lot like that saying about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different out come...A racist is a racist so why should we even be concerend about their out look on or about us as being any thing worth any thing? A closed mine is a closed mine so why do we allow these people to rent such space in our heads in the first place.About the only thing I do is feel sorry for them because they have their own private world and I do not want in to it at all...Lord knows I do not seek their approval to be me, this proud Black woman...

And, one who says that they are the one or the things or something they have learned from a book then my only reaction to this is more power to you. Again I say be happy doing what you do.

I will now leave you with this that I have heard often in the deep south..."Book learning is not worth a plug nickle if you do not have any common sense to go with it"! Nuff said?(smile)

ATTENTION, ATTENTION, ATTENTION, it would go such a long way if we actually look at what we say about our selves as the accepted norm , and if for not other reason try doing this because we tend to disagree when White people say we are worthless as a race of peoples...

"WE (as a race of people)DO NOT READ", then go right on to make sure that WE back this up with a lot more 'negative adjectives' to prove this is true-a fact?!?!We must take over and do the thinking for our children by TAKING them. I gather that all of us did not have a mother like my mother who was dispite the fact that she adopted me...

My mother lead by example and allowed me to make my own decissions. for example, She would by magazines like National Geography and Life magazines because these had lots of big, bold, wonderful pictures as a way to draw me away from those pictures in my comic books. It worked as I bagan to become the avide reader I am today.

I will be the first one to admit that our race is made up of individuals and not just the positive / negative people who gets most of our attention be they in or out of our Black community.Because, when I tried this on my two children, it did not work. They bacame avide readers while going to the library for research or reading books for a book report.

Please, let us all begin to try to look at our selves as positive and productive contributers to being BIA,please, because we are and we always have been.(smile)
