Should L.A. Have Paid $1.4 Million for Security for Michael Jackson's Memorial?

Should L.A. Have Paid $1.4 Million for Security for Michael Jackson's Memorial?

This is something I saw today on one of the sites. Debate Raged Over Funeral. Apparently some Americans are outraged that LA paid $1.4 million to cover the cost of extra security at MJ's Memorial. As you all know California is in a deep budget deficit and have or are planning to issue IOUs to many because they don't have the money to pay people. There was a poll attached to vote whether you think LA should have footed the bill. That's crazy in my opinion. What are your thoughts if you have any on this matter. All comments are welcomed.

{ I agree with the writer of the commentary. LA should have done exactly what they did and provide the security at no additional costs to the Jackson family after all Michael paid taxes did he not? Go figure. }

Sister Irma are you for real?
{..."our politicians to take trips like the one to Alaska to study the process of making Alaskan yo yos at the cost of $2 million"...}

Brother Clark the city told people without tickets to stay home so what did they expect?! {..."but in the end it was reported that only 1,000 people showed up that didn’t have tickets"...}

Sister Tyiesha,
You are so funny. Did you figure it out yet? (((Lol)))

Michael's legacy was one of charity and benevolence--the man gave tons of money away to good causes! Michael deserved that beautiful memorable ceremony at Staples. However, I do think $1.4 million was a little too much considered recession. The money should have gone back to the LA citizens or into city construction.

As a person who lives in Northern Ca. I say if this part of this state (Oakland)can pay our politicians to take trips like the one to Alaska to study the process of making Alaskan yo yos at the cost of $2 million then Southern Ca. has the right to pay for proper security for visitors and residents related to the Jackson memorial in the state of California.(smile)

Plus this will will not end up costing the state tax payers any way. ..Plus we must not leave out the money that all of this did and will bring into California then and in the future...

So glad you brought up the over estimating of people to come, because once again greed took the lead.

I do believe that if they had not ruled out putting up those giant tv screens out front had a lot to do with the people who would have come to wacth the tv and say they were there at the Staple center as a historical moment in their lives. Much like they put up geant tvs for the speech of Mr. Obama.

By greed I mean like those over priced tapes in ads to order the tv program you have just watched which you can tape for yourself in the first place...

Sister Jen, I will put it this way, is the state of Cal. BROKE?LOL Plus the city of Oaklands politicians now expect that apology for this behavior and a promise to do better is expected to be enough to put this matter to rest...
They have not gotten the message of CHANGE is being serious!!!!!!(smile)

pLEASE rest at ease Siebra, this state is taking too much from the poor as it is to even be able to give what you have to say a first much less a second thought!LA. is where even our governor calls home along with all of the other zillionaires in this state!!! but, many thanks for thinking about us out here, because our politicians are not, as usual...

And, as for me, I will setltle for no less than a holiday foR him. No, i do not mean a real Federal holiday or a paid holiday off from work. Just a day that our flags be lowered on the day he died if only there in LA.Just something to remember the beauty and the unity of us in peace as MANKIND that his music brought about... YES WE CAN(smile)
