Your Thoughts Re: Conservative Opposition Blocks Congressional Resolution Honoring Michael Jackson

(Taylor Media Services) Despite a star-studded public memorial service last week, widespread media coverage and effusive praise from Congressional Black Caucus member Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, there will not be a Congressional resolution honoring entertainment legend Michael Jackson. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced last week she would block plans to bring House Resolution 600 to a vote.

Pelosi, who praised Jackson, suggested she was trying to avoid the embarrassment of having conservative House members criticizing the often controversial or misunderstood “King of Pop.” Meanwhile, a sample of what resolution opponents might have said against Jackson came last week from New York Republican Representative Peter King. He blasted the extensive media coverage of Jackson’s memorial service and labeled the entertainer “a lowlife, pervert and child molester.”

Los Angeles media critic Pearl Jr. responded calling King’s comments “defamatory, slanderous and cruel” noting that Jackson had been acquitted of the only child molestation charges ever level against him.

Sister Irma you are just too much!

I agree 100% w/Clark. But will add, while it was an earnest gesture by Sheila Jackson-Lee, there is so much more she should focus her attention on. Like her arm-pit of an 18th congressional district here in Southeast Texas.

..."Pelosi hit on an excuse for not pushing the bill forward. The democrats have the numbers in the house to pass this bill if they wanted to. But as usual, they’re scared of the right"...

Brother Clark is there anything taxpaying citizens can do to challenge the pushing forth of this bill or is it a dead issue?

Thanks Brother Clark for answering my question. I think I will write my senators and let them know how disappointed I am about them cowering once again to the Republicans. Michael Jackson was found innocent according to the laws of the land and I really don't understand why people like King want to continue to deny the judgements when it comes to Blacks prevailing in the courts. Perhaps I am in left field, but there shouldn't be any reason why they wouldn't vote on such a bill at the opposition of a few Conservatives especially when the Democrats have the majority.

I don't think that it is too much to ask these elected officials to pass the Bill 600 instead of tabling it after all the Democrats have the majority. I do understand your point’s guys; however, I feel strongly about this Michael Jackson thing simply for its redemptive purposes.

It took centuries for the government to acknowledge that slavery was wrong. My question is why should it take time for Bill 600? It's only a matter of a vote. It's important to me and I don't think I want to pick and choose what those folks should be prioritizing. If the matter was about some animal or some sort of endangered species...I am sure they wouldn't hesitate...but the redemption of a Black man (who in my opinion in many ways is also an endangered species) isn’t a priority unless we make them make it one. That's just my 2 cents worth.

I stand corrected, it's Resolution 600. Here's the link if anyone else would like to express their views to their elected officials about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's decision to table Resolution 600, click onto the link below... (((Smiles)))

Sister Jen, when I hear things like this, I draw even so much more comfort in the "YES WE CAN "for example,

Senator John Mccain voted against the Dr. M. L. King holiday...Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee used all of those Black votes that put her in Washington, D.C. as someone whose lead could be followed as she campainged 100% for Hillary Clinton as one who was better qualified and better all around to lead the government , military and the United States of America!!!! These are things we should never forget or see as the end. We should look at this and all things like this as not the end but the begining. because, this is the true meaning of YES WE CAN.o.k?(SMILE)

THEN GIVE YOUR SELF A PAT ON THE BACK...

Jen, I do hope King can some how come up as having some history with this C Street group. He sure sounds like those with his kind of being "stuck on stupid" racist politicians that are only allowed to enter this place...One can dream can I not that this place becomes a center piece of the 2010 & 2012 elections campaigns (smile)

and Jen, maybe if Pelosi is given a choice between giving Rep. Lee the little she is asking for or a Michael Jackson holiday, how do you think she will react?I know she don't want to be reminded about our knowledge or feelings about the s*x lives of our politicians making our country's laws / about those being forced to leave office over their s*xual preferences even.LOL

these people like Pelosi have been having it their way at our expense far too long and maybe needs to be reminded who they really work for in no uncertains terms!!!! HUH?

...and my I add this to you and to all, sister Jen. Senator Boxer will always send a response when you write, or email her. Senator Feinstein will never do this, that is until this year as long as she has been in D.C. I say this to say do not be discouraged if your state has a Senator Feinstine, just continue to write and email and call their offices in your state and in D.C.,O.K? lov ya(smile)
