PRESIDENT OBAMA SHOULDN'T HAVE BACKED DOWN
I just got through watching a CNN report on Obama apologizing for the comment he made during the gates arrest. I love the hell out of Obama but I think he'd doing a diservice not only to himself but also to Black men by constantly backing down and being all apologetic.
Me personally, I wouldn't have said the "Cambridge Police" acted stupidly...it's wrong to lump them all together....but I would have said that particular officer acted stupidly and would have stood by it. You NEVER heard of the two sons-of-a-Bushes apologizing for anything they say.
But everytime I turn around Obama is on apologizing or begging for forgiveness or understanding and trying to explain himself. It makes him look weak.
I know he's an extremely intelligent brother but there are certain things that are above and beyond intelligence that reach down into the emotions of people that you can't violate.
It doesn't matter how smart you are, if you look weak or like some limp wristed wimp, people still won't respect you and will seek to take advantage of you.
He should have stood tall by his statement....and made Black men all over America proud.
In the immortal words of Bill Cosby, "Come On People!"
I thought the same thing but others made me think maybe I'm not in a position to say. But I'd say first of all he should not let himself be drawn into such an issue unprepared, then he wouldn't have to equivocate later. Maybe what he needs to do is address this issue in depth and issue a statement or policy that has been well considered and addresses not just the treatment of this college professor but the multitudes of black citizens who suffer at the hands of the JUSTICE system.
