Senate panel approves Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to U.S. Supreme Court: full Senate vote expected

Reporting from Washington -- Judge Sonia Sotomayor, poised to become the first Latino member of the U.S. Supreme Court, won the support of the Senate Judiciary Committee today in a lopsided vote cast largely along party lines for President Barack Obama's first nominee for the nation's highest court. The committee voted 13-6 to send its recommendation to the full Senate, which is expected to confirm Sotomayor's appointment next week.

With all of the committee's Democrats supporting Sotomayor, Sen. Russell Feingold of Wisconsin called the president's nominee "a thoughtful, careful and intelligent judge" with "a perspective that the court sorely needs. ... Not only will Judge Sotomayor be the first Latina to serve on the court, and the third woman, but also the first with experience as a trial judge."
Sotomayor would replace retired Justice David H. Souter, who was confirmed by a 90-9 vote in 1990. The one notable exception among the veteran members of the high court was Justice Clarence Thomas, who was confirmed by a 52-48 vote in 1991.

Sister Jen, this blog is right on time for me to be able to post what I just heard on my tv. And, just another example of the Republican right-wing(or racists) as the gift that keeps on giving in helping them bring their own party down...Christ Matthews of Hardball on msnbc just asked Republican Rep. thaddus Mccotters if the Republican know that the Hispanics will remember their votes today against Judge Sonia Sotomajor on this day as related to how badly one of their own being treated in 2010 and 2012?

With their tunnel vison that can only see ways to try and bring our president down, I doubt that they do give the Hispanics any importance as they do not to any one with dark skin.(smile)"I" for one am so thankful to them for eleminating more and more of their party members that do not go to prison or be forced to leave office in disgrace...YES WE CAN...
