MY THOUGHTS ON OBAMA'S HEALTHCARE REFORM
It is disheartening to see the health care debate degenerate to such hysterical reactions as depicted in the MSNBC video coverage, which showed a man bringing a gun to the Obama twon hall meeting.
Obama's carefully thought-out analysis of problems in the current system and how to fix them does not deserve the ridicule displayed by the gunman in the video.
There are many misrepresentations in the public debate. One is that the government cannot be trusted to do anything right. However, the mess we have now is as much the fault of the private sector, if not more. How moral is it to base health care on profit so the very people who need it the most are shut out?
Another misrepresentation is that we will have rationing of health care under a government plan. As everyone must be aware, we already have rationing based on income. The higher your income, the more choices and better care you get.
Yet another misrepresentation is that a government plan will interfere between you and your doctor. Many private sector plans already offer a set choice of physicians, and if you want to get a second opinion, it has to be out of pocket.
Last, the idea that the option of a government plan will drive out private insurance is a wild supposition, to put it politely. Judging by how private insurance places profit over helping people in need, it would do us all good if it had some competition to worry about.

I am so glad you put this out here. Majority of the people are white and have been bambozzled by the republicans and the insurance companies. Plus the racist talk media have jump on the chance to bring Obama's health care bill down. I do not understand why none of them even checked out the facts first. Its stupidity at its highest level. Here we have for the first time someone trying to make health care better for everyone and yet they can not even see it. Even seniors are going out protesting because of misinformation. Its so sad that we have to deal with this. Just think what would have been said if it were blacks protesting. This bill might not pass because of the greed of the insurance companies and doctors, stupidity and racism. Thanks again for this post. On Friday I will be speaking with Rep Jesse Jackson Jr. To make sure he know I am for this bill and to make sure he fights for it.
If they held a town hall meeting on the south side of Chicago you would not see a lot of white people trying to yell the speaker down. When will white people learn that they are being used.
