BILL COSBY AND JESSE JACKSON

BILL COSBY AND JESSE JACKSON

Siebra Muhammad · Sunday, September 6th 2009 at 5:27PM · 7822 views
The Reverend Jesse Jackson almost never gets upstaged and I had never seen the Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson cry in public until last month. Jackson invited Bill Cosby to the annual Rainbow/PUSH Conference for a conversation about the controversial remarks the entertainer offered on May 17, 2009 at an NAACP dinner in Washington, D.C.

When America 's Jell-O Man shook things up by arguing that African Americans were betraying the legacy of civil rights victories. Cosby said 'the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting.

They are buying things for their kids. . $500 sneakers for what? But they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics!' Bill Cosby came to town and upstaged the reverend by going on the offense instead of defending his earlier remarks. Thursday morning, Cosby showed no signs of repenting as he strode across the stage at the Sheraton Hotel Ballroom before a standing room only crowd. Sporting a natty gold sports coat and dark glasses, he proceeded to unload a laundry list of black America 's self-imposed ills. The iconic actor and comedian kidded that he couldn't compete with the oratory of the Reverend but he preached circles around Jackson in their nearly hour-long conversation, delivering brutally frank one-liners and the toughest of love.

The enemy, he argues, is us: "There is a time, ladies and gentlemen, when we have to turn the mirror around." Cosby acknowledged he wasn't critiquing all blacks. . .. Just the 50 percent of African Americans in the lower economic neighborhood who drop out of school, and the alarming proportions of black men in prison and black teenage
mothers. The mostly black crowd seconded him with choruses of Amens.

To the critics who pose, it's unproductive to air our dirty laundry in public, he responds, "Your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day." It's cursing on the way home, on the bus, train, in the candy store. They are cursing and grabbing each other and going nowhere. The book bag is very, very thin because there's nothing in
it.

Don't worry about the white man, he added. I could care less about what white people think about me. . . Let them talk. What are they saying that is so different from what their grandfathers said and did to us? What is different is what we are doing to ourselves. For those who say Cosby is just an elitist who's "got his" but doesn't understand the plight of the black poor, he reminds us that, "We're going to turn
that mirror around. It's not just the poor-everybody's guilty."

Cosby and Jackson lamented that in the 50th years of Brown vs. Board of Education, our failings betray our legacy. Jackson dabbed away tears as he recalled the financial struggles at Fisk University, a Historically black college and Jackson 's Alma mater. When Cosby was done, the 1,000 people in the room all jumped to their feet in ovation.
We have shed tears too many times, at too many watershed moments before, while the hopes they inspired have fallen by the wayside. Not this time!

Cosby's plea to parents: "Before you get to the point where you say 'I can't do nothing
with them' , do something with them." Teach our children to speak English. There's no such thing as "talking white". When the teacher calls, show up at the school. When the idiot box starts spewing profane rap videos; turn it off. Refrain from cursing around the kids.

Teach our boys that women should be cherished, not raped and demeaned. Tell them that education is a prize we won with blood and tears, not a dishonor. Stop making excuses for the agents and abettors of black on black crime. It costs us nothing to do these things.

But if we don't, it will cost us infinitely more tears. We all send thousands of jokes through e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages regarding life choices, people think twice about sharing. The crude, vulgar, and sometimes the obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of decency is too often suppressed in the schools and workplaces.

I passed this on...WILL YOU???

Harry Watley Sunday, September 6th 2009 at 8:38PM

Hello Ms Muhammad,

Why do you not stop this none sense and push back with out only permanent solution of sovereignty and give Rev. Jesse and Cosby more insight than they presently have?

What say you?

Siebra Muhammad Sunday, September 6th 2009 at 8:49PM

Harry,

First of all, I may not possess a master degree as of yet, but I was an honor student all through school, so I doubt if I have poor comprehension skills. You need to examine your own actions and seriously consider if this is the proper way to approach your own kind.

Secondly, a hypocrite is a hypocrite is a hypocrite. You have not done anything productive whatsoever on the boards. Would you look at some of the things you have posted here? When is the last time that you have even said anything positive about our blogs? Now you're not only talking about me and Irma being contradictions to truth and intelligence, you are attacking Jeremy Hasan Ziglar from the BlackHistory.com site. Rather than actually building on something positive for the Original Black Man and Black Woman, you are skating around looking for the latest controversy to come in and give your two cents worth!

Thirdly, in NOI we are taught to never be the aggressors however we will fight with those who fight with us. I don't know you personally, and your opinion doesn't really count since it's not going to put a dent or scratch on BIA as a whole, but if we were face to face as brother and sister that would be considered an act of aggression. Name-calling, in any way, shape, or form, is aggressive, and whatever happens as a result of that is all on you.

Now, what I DO suggest is this: that you NEVER, EVER say anything against another human being that you would be fearful of your own well-being for saying another situation. For example, you talk a good game about the BIA members suffering from Stockholm syndrome now, but I doubt you would stand up in the rostrum of your local Muhammad's Mosque and fix your mouth to say the same thing. The law is to think 5 times before you speak. That way you don't look so desperate to give your opinion when nobody asked for it. Thank you for your time and I hope that when you respond next time, it will be in intelligent discourse.

Hello Sister Siebra,
Although I must agree with Bill about some of what he is saying, I would appreciate him not using the broad brush to paint all with. I also find it amazing that a man, who spent most of his time outside of the home while pursuing his career is the one making these statements. His wife would be better suited in my opinion to make such comments.

Harry Watley Monday, September 7th 2009 at 2:16PM

Hello Ms. Burgess,

The broad brush that Mr. Cosby is using to paint all Black Americans is fine, since no one person could rise above the plight of their people. All Black Americans are on the bottom of society and have always been on the bottom.

Even though there are poor White American people, as an entire people they are doing fine.

White Americans could immediately remedy any of their problems while Black Americans cannot, as we saw with hurricane Katrina.

Ms. Burgess our thinking process must change. The way we rationalize is how White America have thought us since we have never developed a technique of rationalizing for ourselves, am I right. Basically, we rationalize against ourselves and White America taught us this dysfunctional way of thinking.

We are people who still belong to White America. God have anointed me to change the way we exist.

Tell me what you think.

What say you?

Janice Kelley Monday, September 7th 2009 at 2:59PM

Thank you for putting this on here. Bill has been saying this for years now about what blacks need to do. He dose not include all blacks but as he said well need to step up in order to save our children. We need to stop and look in the mirror ans to how we are helping or not helping the youth. I always believe that our youth reflect what they see at home. Parent and community need to start showing the positive side. We all need to preach education and the benefits of getting one. We must all help fight to make our schools better and equal. As parents we must read to our youth at an early age and help them to explore the outside of their communities.

Harry Watley Monday, September 7th 2009 at 4:53PM

Hello Ms. Kelley,

What Black Americans need is to become a sovereign people or have complete independence on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to pursue Life, Liberty, Happiness and Prosperity in our way with out the influence of others.

Why I know that I am right is that all previous generations has been saying and doing the same thing as, you Ms. Kelley have said and we are worst off today than yesterday. Common sense should tell you we are doing something wrong. Obviously, to continue in this same direction and with the same mindset some as you in the future will be repeating your words to their generation. Therefore, all you are doing is turning around in circles.

Our only permanent solution is that we embrace the concept of independence or sovereignty as I have said. I am guided and inspired by God. No one has said that I am wrong, but you all do is avoids me and when you do it give me a stronger footing in God’s guidance and inspirations. You all are eventually going to listen to me.

Things are changing and independence will be forced on you all, since you al are blind, deaf and dumbfounded that sovereignty is our only permanent solution. What I say for us is God’s will as it was God’s will that the Exodus be forced on the Hebrew people to become independent people as well.

As a nation of Black people, having our own country, we could still do all that you proposed for our children better if we were free to do so.

Tell me what you think.

Siebra Muhammad Monday, September 7th 2009 at 6:50PM

Harry,

Does two wrongs make a right? It is not about other's actions it is about your own. A person can talk about whatever it is they choose to, agree to disagree, but just because we all have freedom of speech on this site it doesn't mean you have the right to insult and disrespect another person's views.

I had a 14 year old girl in my NOI sister's group ask me the question "What is the meaning of civilization? And what is the duty of a civilized person". I said the answer is not to stoop to a savage level if someone speaks harsh words or will not conform. I remember Tyler Perry said in Madea's Family Reunion "It is not what a person calls you it is what you answer to".

But again the point is two wrongs do not make a right and according to scripture God is the only one who can judge us! It is up to God to judge and finalize someone's fate, not your or my duty.

I'm pretty sure everyone drives a car right? Just because you have the right away at an intersection do not mean you are not to use caution if the other driver won't yield.

But let me ask this, what is the different attacks helping with your salvation and what is playing the dozen helping with your salvation? It looks bad and to be honest the type of attention you are hungry for makes people like me and Irma and Clark to be the good guys.

So from now on I am just going to let your attacks roll of my back like water on a ducks back! Especially if it makes me act other (ugly) than myself.

Signing Off,

Siebra

P.S. My girl Alicia Keys tried to warn people like you about that Karma...

Harry Watley Tuesday, September 8th 2009 at 1:28PM

Ms. Irma, please lay down and rest yourself.

Harry Watley Tuesday, September 8th 2009 at 1:44PM

Hello Ms. Muhammad,

I have repeatedly said to you that I do not insult people especially my own people.

You are having a problem grabbing the truth that I express.

You have never pointed out any insults.

Please collect yourself and get strong enough to accept truth when you witness it. I am not against you all. You all belong to me and I belong to you all. I love all of you.

My hearts desire is to see us sovereignty free or have complete independence on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to pursue Life, Liberty, Happiness and Prosperity in our own way. God have granted me my hearts’ desire. My hearts’ desire is the same as what Moses desire was for his Hebrew people and he was God’s choice to do perform the difficult task of leading his people to a sovereign life while God’s hand was always on Moses as God’s hand is on me.

Tell me what you think.

What say you?

Siebra Muhammad Wednesday, September 9th 2009 at 1:02PM

Harry, You know it would be a wonderful thing to witness true brotherhood as a woman who grew up in the NOI but this by far is not what Malcolm, Martin, or even Farrakhan would have wanted from you, to spur such venom amongst the people just to get the upper hand is uncivilized at best. If you don't like our blogs so be it but to attack a person on a world wide web constantly is so uncivilized. I expected you to know better because of your being a 65 year old man so you know how it goes.

Anytime somebody can pull you down to the dozens they have pushed a button in you and that is what you must work on. What does it profit to get one up on our sisters; me and Irma are still your sisters. The purpose of the Whiteman was taught to show us what lies truly within ourselves 7 times more potent.

All eyes are on us Harry and do we want the world to see us as being truly babies still talking gobbly goo goo? There is a beautiful person in all of us here and we all have so much to offer our community. It's like the builders of the mother plane no one knew what the other knew but together they built our greatest weapon of battle.

My BIA family has given me so much on this site that thank you is not enough, I ask you Harry to rise above your emotions to at least if not sharpen the brother to think about doing better. Love will conquer all, yet somebody got to be the bigger person and extend the olive branch.

Before you come back with "Sister Muhammad stay in your place", I AM in my place as being an NOI member to tap my brothers and sisters on their shoulders to let them know that is NOT the way Malcolm and Martin and Farrakhan taught. So please take this in the spirit in which it's offered. I pray that this tap reach the godhood of you and you will grow from there. We are losing too many men (and women) to the dozen games. Rise to the top and be the cream of the Planet earth AND JUST MAYBE YOU CAN GROW TO THE god OF THE UNIVERSE.

FYI want for your brother what you want for yourself! Food for thought healthy ears can stand sick words! Remember we war not against flesh and blood but against prince of darkness and wickedness in high places!!!

Hello Ms Muhammad,

Why did you delete my comment? It shows your insecurity.

Why do not want to promote the concept of sovereignty to your Muslims people?

What say you?

Siebra Muhammad Friday, September 11th 2009 at 4:16PM

Harry asked the question:

Hello Ms Muhammad,

Why did you delete my comment? It shows your insecurity.

Why do not want to promote the concept of sovereignty to your Muslims people?

Think over this family: math does not allow one to be lost. When you teach someone that 2+2=4 and then teach them the formula HOW it is true, you cannot come and share with that same person that has learned the formula that 2+2=10. Since Harry believes our hearts has been hardened against wrong, the wrong that has been perpetrated against me and any other BIA member involved leaves us no choice but to take the necessary steps in RIGHTING the wrong.

Harry, what you fail to realize is that you brought this problem on yourself. You constantly accuse the BIA members of making war with you, when you are the one guilty of the war making. Also by continuing to make war with us, you are allowing it to blind you to the truth. I’ll tell you why you want to continue to make war with us on this site: You want it to be that you are telling the truth. You want it to be that every lie you spew about Black Americans is the reality of it. Why do you want this so bad Harry? Because you and your cheerleaders are the ones that are extremely fearful, hoping, wishing and praying that you’ll never have to face judgment day; that you would never have to account for your actions, and continuing to throw scare tactics at us in all of your opposition gives you some glimmer of hope that you would never have to be judged. This gives you the so-called freedom to think, say and do as you please without ever having to pay for it. You are just kissing the Devil's ass, calling yourself sovereign while acting like nothing more than the holy-roller preachers on TV who also wish they would never have to come face-to-face-with God.

So to Harry and all who agree with him, if you think your idea of liberation and freedom far exceeds ours, I say to you in the words of Minister Farrakhan: “Show me your God. If he don’t want to see me than I sure as hell don’t want to see him."

And to the ones who doubt the warnings of Farrakhan such as California breaking off from this country, the fall of this man’s economy, Hurricane Katrina, the September 11, attacks, etc. I suggest you check out the discovery/history/science channel. Tell me the FOX, CNN, and MSNBC news reporters are not terrified of what the Bible warned our people about (right there in the Book of Revelations) years before they even knew the problems existed. The only problem for them is that it’s too late for some of them to do anything about it. And yet the temperature in California is STEADILY RISING. So where’s your solution Harry (IT DAMN SURE AIN'T HYBRID CARS).

Think over this and reconsider if your behavior towards us are worth the genocide that will most certainly visit our people for the lack of accepting the truth!!!

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

Harry be careful as no matter how you try to hide I know when you are trying to steal my concepts from the comments made by me on other blogs...No only is that not a moral thing to do it is illegal if you fail to site the person who was the original...(smile)

Now the God I know does not teach, inpire this kinds of behaviors.LOL

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

Lets see now, how many Black mothers during the time that the White woman was considered a bad mother if she worked out side of the home (therefore those like this man's mother had to go to work in her home taking care of her family that she refused to do,)as did Mr. Cosby's mother so that he could have a place to stay and did not have to drop out of school and go to work is condemning this man's mother for not being therefore him... and yet he as did his children become the better for this.Or have we become so uncaring about our children that today they do things that Bill's mother(as him) althouge she worked would have never allowed him to do...

And, I not only speak about the history of the Black mother married or single doing all that was necessary to provide for their childern: from being raped to keep a job to being killed for living in a decent neighborhood(which he did not)but this man may be talking about what he learned to get his doctrate in Child care!!!!!

No he is nnot painting all of us with the same bursh because Oprah has no children but she sure grew up abused but not as abused as our president...and yet Cosby is being open and honest where Jackson can not and will not admit how he is the reason that so many people still believe that the picture Jackson painted of us as a community is now working aginst our president....the only time Kackson was on tv have you ever heard him not act as if he was dorectly in contact with the Black community before they became a mida sensation?????

WAKE UP....and ask your own self if what you are saying about us the very same thing we get upset if the MAN says it????(smile)

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

I will never forget when they tried to sue Mr. Bill Cosby for using that drawing of the children on his tv program's opening. HIs words was he had said to the White woman starting this suitwere , "when you come ofter me never forget that you are coming after M-R. Cosby"; for which this lady and her backers and his own daughter learned they learned the hard way when they came after him....as did the man who killed his son...

And my child, I did not see this (but wished I had done so) and believe that you did not see the Rev. crying on CUE when he realized the cameras were on him at the acceptance of our president right after he made his first speech as president. did you?!?

As far as I am concerned Rev. Jackson Sr. has used up all of his automatic respect cards...some thing he never got from me after learning why Mrs. King fell out with him...(I am not smiling)

Thanks for tis post of truth.
